PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

And here I am with my who knows how many years here, finding out we have heat map in the forums too and if doesn't cool off we spawn screamers..cough, I mean the mods.

By the way, almost 300 hours in since 2.0 dropperd and I fully enjoy it, of course I can add some stuff that I am frustrated or miss, but knowing what will be added or reworked in the future just makes me chill and enjoy the crap I experience in wasteland now on insane difficulty.

Don't wish me luck, I got none there 🫡

Maybe Reddittors tired of the echo chamber of hate, trying to spread some here.
Started ramping up more than ever a year ago at Reddit. Almost makes me think it is AI-driven.
Conflicts are psyops, man. Everywhere. 😜

Very happy with Funpimps. Just shy of 9K hours and I am happier now with the game than previous versions.

People just don't like anything new. I'm involved in the maintenance and refinement of one very popular accounting system in the Russian Federation. And quite often during updates I hear a bunch of complaints and claims. But a week or a month passes and people get used to the changes, and some even start to find them more convenient.

Been a while since I had this much fun playing a new update..... A16 to be exact. Even renting and launching a new server with the same group of people we built a whole village with in A16.

Still, disappointed we still don't have bandits, and the smoothies is a bit weird, opposed to gear/mods to compensate for the hazards....but hey, game just needs to be fun, doesn't need to follow any rules.... And this version is good fun.

Now you could just weather the storm. Just saying ;)
I see the update as a very beautiful tell for how awesome bandits will be. Some do not understand how sandbox elements can quadratically expand "trial and error" aspects of game development. I fully appreciate these features from the perspective of long-term development. I fully expect TFP to take the sandbox features people loved to a whole new level after bandits can be integrated with minimal breakage (the hardest part of sandbox development).

With all due respect, if the first game still isn’t finished and they’re already working on another one, it really sounds like this:
“This one isn’t working—let’s grab money some other way, let’s try another game.”
Why sit idle when the original game isn’t even done? Something’s clearly wrong.
Ten years of development, and they still can’t follow their own roadmap.

I already explained it, but maybe some more details is needed:
Those are specialists, you can't give a graphics designer the task to fix programming bugs. So what is that graphics designer going to do if all graphics for a game have been finished or if there are 3 graphics designers and only one is needed for the rest of the game development? What is the sound engineer going to do if he is finished? Go back to school and learn programming or start creating POIs?

Now you are cooking with gas! Preach it! You're cooking good now. I strongly resonate with the agonies of "organized" cross-departmental development for this very reason. I have +1500 hours with your game... I can confirm... The product is good. Coming in hot, with a lefty catcher's mitt filed with a delightful slathering of Planet Terror, is a very pleasing pastime.

If the sound engineer is done does this mean all the sound work is done for bandits? All the graphics design for bandits is complete and ready to go? This answer is somewhat a hard sell if things the fun pimps want to add into the game aren't there yet. Stuff that was wanted to be included years ago. Your telling me there is no work needed to be done for those future projects? If that is the case why aren't they in the game yet? If it's a coding issue still being worked on for bandits how do you also have coders working on the next game as well?

This is the part where the moderator should drop the bombshell of real-time systems versus a typical programming project for desktop applications. You have no idea just how good we've had it (looks at games industry on fire, while chuckling coldly).

Very important info first: I am not part of TPF, I am a volunteer moderator, I have no knowledge of the inside of TFP at all except what their developers have posted here.

Next, I was partly speaking in general terms about game development and making the point about all bigger development companies following such a pipelining approach to game development. Nothing new and it makes sense, saves money and time. It is also much safer for a company when the next game isn't as many years away when one game turns out to be a dud.

Now, what we here on the forum know about graphics design of bandits for example is that it seems to be finished. This was done at the same time as the player armor redesign, the bandits will likely wear the same armor as we do. Sound? No idea.

If bandits wear the same armor it follows you can already look at bandits if you want, just play multiplayer or call up your character page ;)

What we also know is that bandits AI is not finished yet, Faatal was telling us lately about advances he made with the AI.

Coders for the next game: Everything AFAIK and certainly not verified, likely with errors: TFP is working on 2 games. One is contract work for some publisher and it is done by newly hired guys in the unreal engine. The other will be done in this engine, will likely use most of the code used for 7d2d and so far the only one I know for sure who is working on that is madmole, as game designer.

Who else could be working on the new game is just a guess. There are often concept artists working at game developers and unless they also work as graphics designers they would have no work to do anymore. I also assume there are a few more specialists who have not much to do in TFP anymore and also work part time on the new game as well. Maybe Animators, as bandit animation is largely the same as player animation. Probably a lot of the graphics designers changed over as well as not many new graphics will be needed for the rest of the work.
