XBOX Saved game wipes after every update

Every time you guys update the game me and my brother lose all our progress. We play on Xbox. This is now our 3rd time starting completely over. 7 days has to be the only game that does that garbage. This is what we paid 50$ for? And what friends list do we need to join to get back into this multiplayer set up? Do we have to set up discord to play multiplayer now? Idk what you guys are doing over there but it’s 2025.. cmon.
 
Any major updates (like 1.0 to 2.0) will make previous saves incompatible due to the staggering amount of changes that happen in the process. Minor updates (2.0 to 2.1) should not require a new save. Luckily there are only two more major updates left (3.0 and 4.0) so there shouldn't be anymore needing to restart after that.
 
So it’s not even worth starting a new game till 4.0 is complete? And why do I have to use discord to join friends on Xbox? Thanks in advance

Sure it is. 3.0 won't be out for at least 6-12 months, which is plenty of time to play the game. Then it'll be another 6-12 months or more for 4.0, allowing plenty of time there to play the game as well. The game is really designed to be played many times over and over, though I know some people decide to play it like other games and just keep playing for hundreds of days, which is also fine. But if you're playing it repeatedly as it was designed for, restarting really isn't a big deal. I've played dozens of saves in this game, not counting all the test saves I've done. Of course, if restarting 2 more times over the next couple of years is not something you want to do, then you may want to wait until 4.0. But I don't really think that is necessary.

I don't use XBox, but on PC you can turn off Discord in the Audio settings. I'd guess it's the same on console. If you don't want to use Discord for chat with your friends, you can disable it and use something else.
 
When explained like that yeah I can see how that works. So I guess the only thing I need to figure out is why when I create a multiplayer server on Xbox does it not allow my friend to join without being in a “friends list” but I don’t know where to add them. It’s gotten quite confusing. If anyone knows please advise cause we’d love to kill some zombies soon.
