Biome storms are just a 'stop playing' mechanic.

Right now, biome storms are just a 'stop playing' mechanic. Most players end up sitting still for 20-30 minutes doing absolutely nothing because there's no viable way to play through them. We need alternatives: give us ways to survive and keep playing through storms. Maybe better buffs, special gear, temporary shelters, or craftable items that slow down storm damage. Don't force players into AFK mode—this is supposed to be survival, not waiting simulator.

Usually when I'm going into a biome, I carry around 40 building blocks and a door with me, so that way if I do get caught up in a storm, I can place me a quick makeshift shelter with a door if I'm not close to a building that I can ride the storm out in. And that's in reference to your temporary shelters.

Building blocks are always in the inventory, you never know where I might need to climb, and parkour is a late-game skill for me. I just don't understand why you need a door? You can build up blocks and then remove them.

The only time I don't do anything during the storm is when it surprises me in the trader or there is no POI nearby and I have to dig in. I usually loot a POI during a storm or mine resources.

Storms can be interesting when they force you to change your plans. For instance, a storm in the basement of Crack a Book HQ caught me off guard. I was in the middle of the final battle and had to change my strategy. Usually, I run around the building killing zombies, but this time, I had to bring the fight inside.

My question is can't you just dig a hole and hide underground during a storm? I play with biome progression disabled as the system is completly worthless with how the game is atm, and I don't know if that still allows storms to happen.

Oddly enough I find them more of a nuisance when they start up as I'm visiting a trader or at base having gotten prepared for the next quest. Not helping is how vehicles drive like they are on ice when one of those storms are active. I get it; that's to prevent people from just driving around in the storm and essentially having it not exist. If I'm already out and about in POIs or on a quest? No biggie.

On the trader note, the storms basically encourage you to build a base right next to them so you can at least run between the two during a storm if need be.

I don't think the handling of vehicles is to keep you from driving in the storms. You'll still take damage, so you are limited to how much driving you can do anyhow. I think it is more because they liked the idea that you couldn't handle a vehicle in a storm. That night make sense for snow or rain, but radiation? And even a sand storm might push you around , but you can still steer and stop. I haven't driven in storms other than in a straight line out of a biome, so I haven't experienced the handling issue.

Yeah, they slide around as if on ice, even in the non-snow biomes. Fairly annoying, especially when you can't see the storm ahead of time. Drove into the desert in my truck only for it to be amidst a storm and even during the grace period, the truck slid like crazy. Ended up t-boned upside a tree and had the truck drop from 50% to 20% (semi-related, can the truck not be made of tissue paper compared to motorcycles?)

yesterday I had a really fun situation created by storms. I was just finishing clearing a POI and the 60 sec timer started ticking. I made my way to the trader to complete the quest and had about 15 seconds of taking damage from the storm before I could get inside the traders building just before closing. Healed up inside and realized I was about to get kicked out before the storm was over. I braved the storm and left my bicycle behind at the trader since it's next to impossible to ride during the storm. Made my way back to my base with 50% health and was so happy to get inside.

In this instance, it added a lot of tension and drama that wouldn't have been there otherwise. I can see how this can be frustrating, but really, you can always hide in a POI or in a pinch dig a hole and place a block on top and wait it out while you gather rocks or clay.

I like them. It's a little boring without them in my opinion.

Storms don't appear to be nearly as frequent on the latest and greatest experimental. I haven't been caught in one yet. I've tried to enter a biome twice and encountered one and turned around and did something else.

The issue IMO is that they are not interactive. It's just go hide which isn't terrible, but it could be better. They designed a nice looking storm for me to hide and not see it? Seems counter productive.

The DoT should be based on temperature, exhaustion, etc where the storm amplifies negative aspects of the zone (hot desert/cold snow) and you take DoT if you don't actively rectify the malady (whenever they bring back temperature system and expand on it hopefully). Combine that with poor vision and perhaps a wild zombie spawn increase by 2x would make traversing in the storms challenging and fun while not fully restricting you.

Yeah true, but I upgrade those blocks, just in case of a roaming zombie finds my temporary shelter, it buys be a little bit of extra time to deal with the zombie, and having that door allows me to be able to run out, deal with the zombie and then retreat back in from out of the storm. Plus usually I carry at least 600 wood incase I need to build ladders or anything to get up to higher places.

I've tried to ride a motorcycle a couple of times while in a storm. I always ended up getting off and picking up the motorcycle.

You need to be under a player-built block, at minimum. I dug a hole straight down, placed a frame above, built it to the first stage, wood. Game tells me I'm sheltered.
I dug into the side of the hole, figured I might as well mine while stuck there, but I started taking damage and getting the "seek shelter" warning, even when I was directly under the block. So I filled in my exploratory mining with more blocks, and I was once again "sheltered".
Best guess, probably any given column underground, you are fine if there's a block between you and the skybox, but voxels alone won't cut it.

That's probably more like the camera clipping into ground, where you can see through the ground. Same thing, but with the "shelter detection" lines instead; they just skipped past the closest block for some reason. Terrain blocks should work just fine, but one might want to dig three blocks high tunnels to avoid clipping the ceiling.

I was halfway through the mortician's house this morning when a storm hit. I ran out to my motorcycle and emptied out my inventory. Then I went back in and finished the mission while the storm was carrying on. My only complaint was the fog carried through the inside the house I messed up my night vision goggles. It was fun

hi just want to share this video for those of you who keep insisting that storms force you to be afk, in the video, a spawn mod is being used, but it doesn't matter, vanilla is the same with a few less zombies.
