Are you guys over at the game studio okay?

Maybe it's a generational thing, or maybe I'm just wired this way, but I simply cannot get hot and bothered over video game characters or cartoons. So I always find objectification and sexualization arguments regarding games completely ridiculous and eye roll-inducing.

The reason I like Jen is because her various quips and voice acting reminds me of Elvira. I grew up watching Movie Macabre in the early 80's and have been a huge fan of the Elvira character since I was a kid. All Jen's missing is the wig and black dress. :D

I absolutely hate Rekt. Seriously. **** that guy.

Likewise. I just personally find middle school levels of maturity eye roll inducing.

Because we know why Jen was designed the way she was. We all know. Maybe I'm just not the target audience and as a result that's screwing with my "perspective".

Rekt's lines though are just original and unfunny half the time. Then there's Hugh with his mic peaking, and they desecrated my man Joel...

"The gender split of male and female players remains at about half-and-half – 53% of video game players identify as male, 46% identify as female and approximately 1% selected non-binary or preferred not to identify for the survey." -- Women in Games
How was the counting done?
If you go to any gaming expo, you will see that 80% of the visitors are male.
If you play an online game where there are guilds, try to get together with this guild somewhere in a bar. And you will see that 80% are guys.

Mmhmm. As I stated in a previous post, women dominate the switch and the mobile ecosystem, while men dominate the other two consoles and especially PC. This is not to say that "mobile games aren't games", I am instead clarifying that they are completely different ecosystems, and the Switch is honestly imo closer to mobile than Playstation or Xbox. It's also been documented that women dominate cozy, simple games, while men dominate more action-orientated genres. The same applies outside of games - men/boys dominate interest in sports, roughhousing, sharing a drink at the bar... This is partly because of the discrimination and harassment women face in these spaces, but it isn't the whole story. Someone mentioned above that we just can't get women into the "dirtier" jobs such as plumping and garbage collection, and this is correct. Whether it's biological, or societal/political is anyone's debate.

At the end of the day, the world is messy, and not everything is going to have nor should it have (through unnatural force) a 50/50 divide. Arguably, equality of opportunity should exist, but equality of outcome on the other hand isn't it, chief.

To add onto the above, and your comment about expos, this is because on average (by a wide margin), men are more 'passionate' than women are in the gaming space. The genres that women dominate are more pick up and play, set down and forget, and often don't have large, passionate fanbases and real-life events attached to them.

There's a reason why the stereotypes exist where the average 'gamer' is a sweaty man, while the average woman picks up her phone while she is bored (on the bus, waiting for laundry to be done, etc.), plays one round of Candy Crush or Bejeweled, and then turns it off.

I am tired of people trying to police what others like and enjoy by trying to equate an attractive women in a video game to exploitation or objectification
No one participating in this thread has tried to police what others like and enjoy. I think the Matrix has you, Neo, as the vast majority of us, and you're dragging the controversies that have taken over public discourse on any subject into this discussion. No one said anything about "attractive women" in video games. The OP is literally talking about gross zombies even a necro probably wouldn't find "appealing."

That said, postapocalyptic games are based on the sick society we live in. In fact, well-written games like Fallout: New Vegas are holding up a satirical a mirror to it. It is the predominant paradigm of Western civilization that has object-ified us all, as I said. If that's where you're getting the "objectification and exploitation" in video games thing, that pervasive objectification of us by the supposed powers that be is what my statement was about. That's why I don't concern myself with the objectification of women in particular. All of us are being subjected to it and, as Jiddu Krishnamurti put it, "It's no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a sick society."

prey upon one's emotions and desire to be a good person to remove or alter it
No one's suggested removing or altering any zombie models in this thread, either. OP just expressed his personal discomfort with them. Fact: nefarious entities are using the gaming community and Internet in general to further their nefarious goals. I imagine every reasonable person not in some position of power in the world are sick and tired of the sociopathic elite's "game" of Divide and Conquer the Public, but the simple fact is that we can allow ourselves to be manipulated by the incessant political propaganda ruling the airwaves -- specifically designed to worm its way into our heads -- or not. That's our choice. There's certainly no room for it in my thought processes. That's why I say statistics and politics as practiced today don't reflect reality on the ground. As Twain put it, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

There's an Eastern concept I struggled with for years: If we feel a certain way, it's because we chose to feel that way. That just so happens to be true, but it's also often used by unscrupulous people to do or say anything they like to us without ever accepting any responsibility for it. So, you're right to be vigilant about the attempted manipulation of your emotions and thought processes. Keep it up. Hard as it is, though, we also have to try and consciously avoid seeing it everywhere we go whether it's there or not.

Jordan Peterson fan? It would have been nice if just one person stumping for whatever had understood his point that equality doesn't mean sameness. He often confuses individuality with Jung's concept of individuation, though, and I personally think Iain McGilchrist runs circles around the guy. There's clever and, then, there's wise and it's wisdom that's rarely in sight.

Jordan Peterson is an absolute quack and a grifter. It doesn't take two brain cells to figure that one out.

I don't know if that particular survey goes into the breakdown of mobile, PC, etc., because I frankly don't care. Point was: if you're going to quote statistics, you might want to include some and the gender split overall is right about 50-50. People can argue over which kinds of games males and females like best. Meanwhile, I -- a woman -- will sit over here playing "violent" RPGs and wonder what anyone finds enjoyable about Candy Crush while surrounding myself with earthtones (as I hate pink).

Genuinely asking, can you provide a tl;dr on what the original conversation was about, and what your position on it is? I've forgotten in all the meaningless finger jabbing. (I'm trying to assume good intent here. All I ask is that you do the same.)

One of the complaints I saw was that the game is meant to be somewhat realistic and it now has yetis and mummies and stuff
A zombie game being realistic?
(why does this forum, primarily centered around an M-rated game, censor swear-words?).
Some of the mods don't like profanity so a compromise was made and a profanity setting that each user can toggle in their settings. It is enabled by default.

The original model she had, or the current version?
I would have to see what you mean by original. She looks the same as I have seen since starting to play the game in A20. And since she was modeled after a real person, it seems unlikely any updates to graphics would change her in a significant way, though maybe that isn't true.

Doctor Anna from DF uses her old model. I don't know how to properly link photos here, but I'm sure you can find reference photos of her. All I can say for reference is before her outfit was a traditional medical one, and her chest was at least 4x smaller.
