Storms On Or Off?

Deadfast

Refugee
I myself will be leaving them off because they make me spend too much time in a biome after the fact that I'm spending too much time in that biome already mining resources. Who wants to get done mining after 30mins to an hour in the desert only to be met with a storm right after coming up to the surface and my base is back in the forest 1.5km away and I'm on foot or a bicycle.

What do you guys think?

I leave the storms on. As I primarily live in the forest biome, they don't bother me. I usually only go to the other biomes for quests or resources.

On my first playthrough of the patch, just fought my first horde in a T5 in burnt forest. After this one, I'll probably leave the storms on, and the game off.
MMMaybe I'll check if you can live off of zedbags now in another game, but I doubt that'll last to the first storm... :)

Storms ON: great visuals. Like that they change your plans and you have to just duck inside a close POI and then possibly defend it against faster zombies. You can always loot the POI during the downtime and is a good time to do the extra looting like stripping the place for cloth, leather, brass.

Dislike that you can't see if a storm is happening in an adjacent biome, if the visual can't be done then have an indicator on the map page or somewhere where you can see all the biomes and if a storm is happening. Sucks to spend time traveling just to get to the border of a new biome and can't go in because a storm is happening and have to return.

Dislike the high amount of damage a storm does. Seems like no possible way to stay out in a storm aside from continually killing zombies with max siphoning strikes. Would like it to be a slower tick so with a lot of resource (first aid kit) and danger you could choose to stay out in it at least for a little while. If you can't spend time in the storm then all the cool visuals are kind of wasted as you spend little time there if any.

Ooohhh, Would also want feral sense to be turned on during storms to attract more zombies to where you holed up in. Gives you a minute to find a place and set defenses up, kind of like a mini horde, all during a raging storm.

I haven't decided for sure, but I'll probably have them off in all future games. But we'll see. Devs have said they are looking at making some changes to them and are even considering removing the health loss. So we'll see what happens.

I understand we can turn off biome progression which I’d like to do.

But…I love the idea of the storms …if we turn off biome progression will we lose the storms as well???

Thank you

You don't need to post multiple times. I've already replied to you in the dev diary.

Iirc, Storm Frequency has its own separate setting so turning off Biome Progression does not turn off Storms and vice versa.

For me, ON.

I think it adds some more challenges and can lead to fun situations where you need to seek refuge in a random house infested with zombies to escape the storm, for example 😄. So far I have not found myself in a situation where I just sit there and wait, but usually the opposite, it has added some fun and spice to my game. If I need to get inside a POI I just take the opportunity to clean it and get some good loot and zombie killing action. If I am at the base I just go see if I need to craft something, or plan where to spend my skill points, or decorate. If I am mining I just mine for a little longer, get more ores, or clay or whatever, you never have enough. So far I have fun with the storms, and I hope TFP develop it more adding new mechanics.

I do not know, for me it is not a big issue, I would actually like the storms to be even more dangerous in the sense of, for example, spawning special enemies when outside or something like that.
So for me, definitively ON 🥰

Storms are ok, and I'll probably always keep them on, though I do have two issues with them.

The first is that the storms hit too quickly. If you are between towns, 60 seconds isn't always enough time to make it to a POI, and having to rapidly construct a tiny shelter is possible, but also incredibly boring to sit inside while waiting the storm to eventually subside. This sudden hazard onset makes me want to avoid non-forest biomes. I think a 2-minute or possibly even 90-second warning time would be much better.

The second issue is the huge amount of damage each tick does. I think taking damage is fine, but if it is this lethal, then a way to reduce it would be nice. Currently, badges do nothing, but I think they should offer some resistance against the damage. Alternatively, add an armor padding mod to replace the removed insulating and cooling mesh mods that reduces storm damage and give back the explosion resistance that those former mods also had.

completely agree

I'm keeping them on but I don't love the current implementation. I want them to be punishing, but not lethal. I want it to be a bad idea to be out in a storm, but doable if you have to.

If you have a lot of first aid kits, you can run in a storm. This is not Conan.

I just hope they do not run as long as some people are saying...10 mins is a very long time to wait out a storm if you are just there to get resources. Yes, people have said their storms are lasting up to...get this...10-15 mins IRL...lol. Not sure if this is a server thing or map thing or what. Just what I have seen from posts on steam community.

From my understanding (I haven't looked into it myself), the amount of real time for the storm varies based on the day length you set. It's about 10 minutes for 1 hour days. If you change the day length to 30 minutes or 2 hours or something else, the storms will increase or decrease time.

Storms on; biome progress off. A little dynamic weather never hurt anyone and I honestly don't think it matters how long they last. They provide for a little emergent gameplay -- changes of plans, preparedness, etc. As others, I think it could be implemented better, e.g. not having storms follow you around, fire off when you hit a biome, etc. -- in other words, not be all about you, but rather be just a natural part of the game world oblivious to your presence, more like the Frostfall mod for Skyrim. Hopefully, TFP will will be refining the iteration in future.
