Remove the Sprint Lock / Toggle function! It's such a poor design!

I am still on 1.4 stable and wanted to ask, if 2.0 finally has an option to completely deactive the sprint lock?

Since it was implemented, i am taking much more damage, as i accidentally sprint into zombies or sprint off a roof.
I prefer the old way, so that i only sprint, when i actually press shift.

I think the reason why i am having problems is, that i often do microsprints with shift, which probably counts as tap and sprintlock gets activated, although i did not want it to.

As described by Riamus
"While holding W, tap Shift once (sometimes I have to tap it two or three times to get it to register, but it should be once) and sprint lock should enable (the sprint icon is next to your health and stamina just like when holding Shift), making you sprint without needing to hold Shift."
This is the functionality one would expect would not to exist if the sprint lock option is disabled.

If I don't want a sprint lock I turn it off. If I turn it off, I don't want it ever, I don't want some workaround, I don't want some special key sequence. I simply don't want it.

As I think I pointed out at some point in this thread, there is not currently an option to disable sprint lock. The option you see is not to disable it entirely. It is to disable it when you stop or to remain enabled when you stop. You can always request that they add an option to disable it completely, but the current option isn't intended to do so.

I still don't really see why people struggle with this. It never turns on unless I choose to turn it on.

"I still don't really see why people struggle with this." Because it's unlike any other game, where you either have a lock toggled on or off completely. This middle ground functionality is very odd.

Off the top of my head:
Stardew Valley
Minecraft
Call of Duty
Mass effect

To name a few which have a toggle that's either always toggle or always hold.

It often happens when you sprint a short distance, such as from a loot container to another, or a short distance towards a zombie to trigger whatever sprint effects you might have on your attacks. I agree that there should be an option to toggle the toggle for sprint on or off as I personally dislike it too.

Yet even if you were to hit shift twice to enable it, is you have the option set to disabled, as soon as you stop to fight it stop to loot, it will be disabled again. So it shouldn't even matter if you managed to hit shift twice instead of once.

To be clear, I'm not arguing about whether or not people have problems with it. I'm genuinely curious how that can happen as I've never had even the slightest problem with it and use it frequently.

Isn't it only once that you have to tap it? That is at least my experience and what people above seem to have commented too. Anyway, for the looting part that is actually currently not true, as indicated by this bug report. That might be why it feels like it happens more often than it actually does, for me at least. Still, I'm equally surprised you haven't had any issues with it then.

Yeah, sorry. I often hold Shift, not using the sprint lock initially, and then tap it to enable the sprint lock so was thinking of it as twice. Maybe that's a new bug that I haven't seen yet. Not sure if I've tried looting while sprinting in 2.0 EXP. It may just be that I tend to stop a split second prior to trying to click on loot. Maybe that is what makes the difference. I've never really paid that much attention to that.

No Man's Sky has a similar sprint tap-toggle. I've been playing NMS and 7DTD for so long now that I have trouble adjusting to games with "normal" sprint controls.
