PC spitter swarm at start-up location? wtf!

I just started a new solo game and was just finishing my opening challenges to get trader location, when I was suddenly attacked by a spitter swarm.
Okay, I had not put my club into a slot yet, since there was no expected need to do it immediately, so I lost a few seconds doing that.
So now Ialready have 1.8% infection, am 300+ meters away from Rek'd, and have nothing to sell him anyway in hopes of buying some.
This is partially because I have run around hitting stumps with no success on getting honey rather than running toward the nearest POI in hopes of getting some there.

But the real question is WHY am I getting a desert-specific enemy in my starting Pine Forest location with no desert in sight in any direction?

Plenty of options, most point towards "a bug". If you're curious, at least check that there's no actual desert nearby, there might. Rough deal nonetheless.

If there's no desert, maybe file a bug report.

In addition to filling out a bug report, you'll need to include a log of what happened so people could help you. There's a very good chance that the cause will show in the log for that kind of issue.

There's a claim in another thread, that stumps will spawn bugs now. Maybe not a bug after all. Wait. Anyhoo, you get the idea :)

Faatal confirmed this is intended.

Hmm, this makes for a rough start if you're trying to complete a harvest wood starting achievement and you happen to pick a stump rather than a small tree.

happen to pick a stump
You'll still pick the stumps to get the honeys; now you just might need to play catch-up with the infection you got first. Wonder what it'd take to capture the swarm in a box surrounding the stump. Can they reliably fly out through scaf ladders etc..? :)

I've figured out how bugs spawn, so I know how to safely destroy stumps.
However, I won't mention it here because it would be a spoiler. I'm sure one of the streamers will mention it.

So can you destroy a stump from a distance with a bow and have the wood and honey 🍯 drop as a loot bag/back pack?

Can't say I've tried specifically on stumps, but no. Destroying blocks with ranged doesn't drop any harvest resources, or any other loot. Not from blocks, trees, loot containers or pigs.

Running away seems to be perfectly viable, thou.

I have seen several really small desert spots randomly in the forest on our first V2 map. Around 1 km away from the actual desert. That might be your problem.

@InfiniteWarrior That stupid robot and his daily quest with the honey beasts. I remember. Never could keep that ■■■■ robot alive when i was alone.

This is only happened to me once on day one. I think I'm on day 10 and haven't seen it happen and I've harvested a lot of stumps
