Windows No Option To Spawn Near Backpack After Death

Wynd

Refugee
I updated to 2.0 experimental from 1.3 and added approximately 13 mods in order to play with a friend (I host a local MP game). Neither of us has the option to spawn at our backpack upon death. After ending the MP session, I started a new solo game and had the same thing happen. I verified the files and received a message that 1 file would be reacquired. Started a new solo game and still didn't have the option. I removed the 7d2d appdata folder and uninstalled the game and rebooted. Reinstalled and started a new game with no mods at all. Same issue.

I did notice that if I had no bedroll down, I have the option to spawn in the world ~90m from my backpack. Once I put the bedroll down, I can only spawn on or near my bedroll with no option for my backpack. This is with or without mods. EAC is off.

If I roll back to 1.3 (I play the Rebirth overhaul on 1.3) I have no issues spawning near my backpack upon death.

I have no idea what I have done to break my 2.0 game and don't know how to fix it. The strange thing is that I played 2.0 MP local (on my PC) with this same friend the day before and did NOT have the spawning issue.

Attaching a screenshot of the mods I used (I got no red errors and most have been updated for 2.0)

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

you could always make a map marker... but as for the issue, I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this.

I was able to spawn near my backpack with a bedroll in place when I died.
I know many others who have the bedroll option as well so I don't know where the disconnect is. I hope someone can help identify the cause

maybe i am doing it wrong but map markers seem to only work within a certain distance of the area marked. if i get too far away i am stuck opening my map every half minute or so to reorientate myself

I see that your game preference setting for spawning near backpack is set to false in your logs.
GamePref.AllowSpawnNearBackpack = False
You would need to set this to True in order to spawn near backpack.
- Open your console by pressing F1.
- Enter "sg AllowSpawnNearBackpack True" without the quotes in the console and press enter.
- Exit and relog into game.
- You should now be able to spawn near your backpack even if you have a bedroll placed.

Whoa! I thought AllowSpawnNearBackpack was disabled several updates ago. I'm almost certain it does nothing in v1.4. Is it actually working again in v2.0??

I was very unhappy when the Spawn Near Backpack feature was added. So I'd love to be able to disable it without having to use a mod.

I just checked, and the default setting for it in 2.0 is True. No idea how OP's got set to false in 2.0, unless it was done by the mods.
There is a reason why Mods are not supported during experimental.

I thought it was one of the mods as well but when I completely wiped my game, uninstalled everything, and tried again with no mods, I still didn't have the option. I figured it was user error but had no idea where to look.

Well, if it can be toggled on/off via the console again, that's awesome!

Thank you VERY MUCH for helping me! I had no idea where to look or how to fix this. You're a lifesaver for my sanity and my game!

When starting a new experimental, You have to first completely wipe all the old data. There was probably something in your settings for the previous version you did not clean out.

That makes sense. I thought I'd removed everything but definitely missed something. Thanks for the info!

@SylenThunder

I just tested AllowSpawnNearBackpack=false in v1.4 and can confirm it does absolutely nothing, which is why the OP only noticed the problem with v2.0. The devs for whatever reason must have reenabled that gamesetting toggle, causing the spawn option to disappear.

So I guess ByteBlazar's "No Spawn Near Backpack" mod isn't necessary anymore.

Your settings and player data are stored in AppData, which doesn't get wiped by uninstalling. Has to be done by hand.
That's part of what I did when I completely uninstalled the game. I got rid of the appdata folder completely. I must have left something behind somewhere for that to not fix the issue. Now I know better and have learned some thing.

SylenThunder mentioned the registry earlier. That would be a really weird setting to store in the registry, but I guess it's possible. 🤔🤷‍♂️
