PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

On that note, we have been in need of more Bulletproof Glass block shapes. eg: there is a curved corner shape, but not a curved block to match it.
Hopefully this gets added.

Asking because there are a host of (even completely opaque) blocks screamers and cops can see the player through, such as half-blocks, if I'm not mistaken in that example.
Yeah, mostly seems to be half-blocks that have this issue. It's kind of ridiculous that I can be completely covered and still have a Screamer scream at me as soon as she walks up.

Pseudo Posse did a video on it a while back and it's not only wildly inconsistent, it's quite disturbing how many block shapes screamers/cops can see you through. I believe in his horde every night series, GNS had to switch out most of the blocks in his base from fancier shapes to full cubes particularly because of this problem.

I suspect the main reason is that they want to plan how they're going to spend their in-game time, and screamers are designed to show up when you're doing base stuff (also: when you're doing non-base stuff). To people who are playing that way, the screamers would feel like an interruption of the fun rather than the arrival of fun.

I can attest to this personally. I'm a builder, and having screamers show up every couple of in-game hours purely because I have a few torches or candles burning is a little ridiculous. They're a little too sensitive nowadays, in my opinion. I shouldn't have to turn my one burning campfire off when I don't want to be disturbed (multiple times) during a long paint session, but I digress.

It all depends on perspective. If you're somebody who likes constant action, the thought of simply sneezing in a forest and it attracting screamers can seem like a blessing, but to those who want calmer days, they can get a bit annoying, even with a dedicated horde/screamer base set up nearby.

Nice! With this change, will cops/screamers still be able to see the player through these shapes?
No. Block opacity is for light propagation, which should have nothing to do with physics raycasts against colliders. A tester did complain today about a cop seeing him in a house and I glanced at the can see code, but saw no issue. It needs a more detailed look.

AFAIK (not specially checked myself, just referring to streamer complaints...).

Sceamers seeing you is not about block opacity, it's about block orientation.
For example, a "thin" wall made out of half blocks, with fully covered line of sight, but Cops and Screamers still can see you. Does this makes sense for you? 😉

He was saying that block opacity is about light propagation and not related to the cops and screamers seeing you. That is due to physics raycasts against colliders from what he said. :)

Is there a dev who's specifically over the balance part of the game? If so, can I give him a digital cookie to buff the robotic turret shotgun shells pwease. Their damage is so bad and when you place your turret, it will fire two dozen of them trying to kill a zombie that is basically out of range of the shells. It's not like they are that cheap to craft either

I feel like they could be in a good spot with just some number tweaks, but even as someone who's probably used robotic turrets for like 500+ hours in game so far, I basically have never found a use case for the robotic shotgun shells that isn't worse than just using an unperked shotgun instead which is nearly as cheap to make significantly better ammo for

yeah, understood, I was specially refering to the last part of his post about the testers complain.
I've edited my post 😛
