Remember what happens with forges, and stations.
There is a property called heatmap, and heattime for dissipation.
Because if it were sound then trees dropping should attract nearby zombies.
No, heat is just a umbrella term for activity. Its not just "heat". Making sound is also such an activity. But it has to be configured to use "heat" like using guns or motorized tools.

@YourMirror
Thank you, that means that it is possible for me to readjust all sound making activities
to draw zombies. That would make it more greatly interactive. I always felt that felling
trees, and breaking metal in the street should draw zombies even if they did not see me.

I have not played in a while, so I cannot say what the current status quo is, but dropping a tree definitely used to attract the nearby zombies.
If I was harvesting wood at night in the Wasteland, I'd generally wait until sunrise to actually drop the trees I'd been chopping. They came right for the tree when it fell. I can't remember if lumberjackin' or mining without power tools would be enough to draw a Screamer though. I don't believe so.

I remember it happening before, but it hasn;t happened in the las few alphas, so I just
figured it had been toned down. I remember that whacking a boulder or a tree was
usually done in a circle to watch the area. Now I have not had to.

only if they had line of sight did they approach.

EDIT: I just figured it out at least locally. I set the crouch to 1.0 instead of .5. I can run and hide,
now, which covers the crouch for line of sight part. But if I start hammering it attracts the local
zombies to that position. Rinse and repeat, run and duck for cover throw a rock decoy. Then hammer
and the zombie starts the aware snarl and approaches the spot.

A heatmap is a type of map that is used not just in the game, but when viewing data. It is used to depict how much of something is in a given area. A population map is often shown as a heatmap because it easily shows how densely populated areas are in a way that's easy to understand. The game makes use of a similar thing, where the more activity you do within an area, the higher the heatmap value gets. It really has nothing to do with heat, though some things like a campfire or forge do increase that value. But those increase it because of the activity and not because of the actual heat. As far as what the activities are that generate "heat," that is up to what they set up in the XML. Actual sound doesn't increase it, but things that make sound can be set to generate the heat. So mining will increase the heat, but it's because of the activity and not specifically because of the sound. So if you just modded out the sound, the heat would still increase. You'd have to instead mod out the heat increase value.

It throws something at you. It does not stun.

I still think a fun update for Spider zombie would be to let it spray webs at a wall. They could be reskinned ladders with low HP, that are burnable, but if spiders would periodically spray 5-10 webs at random at walls, it would create new ladders that zombies could take to get on top of your base

I think something like that would be a pretty neat shake up to the base building meta and make it the most unique / scary zombie for horde nights

This post is generating way too much heat. Better watch out!

Speaking of sound, do storms attract screamers? If not, would my firearms noise during a storm make them spawn? Because I imagine a severe storm would even out the noise level and they would be confused on where to go
Storms currently do nothing to zombies or animals.
