Crazy question... but doesn't hurt to ask!

So it's possible to convert a POI to a player controlled area/base by placing a land claim block. But.... it is possible to convert it into a functioning POI? Specifically... I would like to spawn the Sawmill prefab near each trader, then once its cleared you can land claim it and start using it as a personal sawmill/lumbermill.  I've made a functioning Table Saw workstation, but it seems a bit wonky to say... cut down a tree and get a log out of it then use a table saw to cut it down to lumber like 2x4s, 6x6s, etc. I would like to clear the Sawmill, then claim it, and have a functioning saw mill to convert tree logs into usable lumber. Is it even possible to do this?

I'm not clear on what you want to do.

In a game, the Land Claim Block will prevent any POIs it overlaps from being assigned to quests. It might suppress spawns, but I thought it was Bedrolls that did that. If you remove the Land Claim Blocks and Bedrolls then it should go back to being a POI.

Spawning a specific POI, like a Sawmill can be done via either the (1) World Editor for an existing map, (2) the Random World Generator with some configuration and some knowledge of Tiles, or (3) using Teragon and whatever features it might have including some knowledge of Tiles.

The World Editor lets you edit an already-generated map. It has its own quirks and several people on this forum know its tricks.

When it comes to Tiles, I happen to know that certain "Gateway" Tiles are often the target of the Trader POIs. If you were to arrange for the Sawmill to be the appropriate size and have the right tags, you can probably arrange for RWG / Teragon to nearly-always place it very close to a Trader, such as across the street. I would have to dig into what you wanted in terms of Tiles to use in your map to be able to advise more there. Then I could scout out those Tiles and the Sawmill POI and give you an idea of your chances.

A possible complication is that POIs cannot have player blocks in them, so you won't be able to prefill it with functioning workstations, storage chests, traps, and electricity.

Did any of that answer your question, or give you a lead on an answer?

The game doesn't offer that kind of usability of POI.  But if you made your own workstation, you could just put it into the sawmill after you clear it and claim it and treat it as a "working" sawmill.  It wouldn't be any different that putting your workstation into any other POI or a base you build, other than aesthetics.

I suppose that if you are really good at C# modding, you might be able to find a way to make a functioning sawmill POI... But that would probably be a challenge.

Basically just want to clear the Sawmill POI then turn it into a functioning sawmill with no player placed workstations, it would just turn into a usable sawmill. Maybe I can just stretch the Table Saw with block dimensions a bit to make it look a bit more like a sawmill instead of a table saw. I suppose it was a bit of a stretch...

There are workstations that work without being placed by players of you check the creative menu. You could probably set your workstation up in the same way and get it to work without having to be placed by the player.

I guess it depends on what all you envision having to do to get the mill working again. Maybe you need to refurbish some of the mill's equipment, such as the saw, because it hasn't had any maintenance in years and is all locked up, squirrels and birds have made nests in it, and somebody has salvaged parts from it... basically, you provide your new saw block.

If you want a larger saw and you don't want to make a custom model, just build a bunch of other blocks around it and claim you have a bigger saw.
