PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

That's sounds so cool. Maybe it throws icicles or something? I guess we'll see soon enough.
That would be cool. We need more ranged attack zombies. Doesn't have to hit hard, but could be a faster zombie that has a quicker projectile attack that is more accurate than the cop. Maybe gives you that frost screen effect if it hits you with it.

I know that it is concept art.

Now that has been said, Please if it is possible, with each of the new zombie types,

the weather effects. Do the the same thing that is in the the Frostclaw image. Pump up the screen overlays,

they may seem like a simple thing, but, they create a situational narrative, they are like a visual narrator.

Things thrown smashing against the screen, screen cracks, Heatwaves distorted visibility, similar to getting

the buzz, fade to black at close to death or passing out. A combination image to give an idea: an object hitting

the screen as you are coming in from the cold and being pummeled to within and inch of death and having just

applied a bandage, and heating up at your campfire; each with their own screen overlay effect. People react to

what they see. A simple red tinted pulsing screen, creates a sense of urgency. So does simultaneously constricting

and darkening the view in first person.

Working on lightning right now for storms. Making it player specific for storms and not using the old weird global triggering that was averaging player positions and accidentally including non player entities. Many times when I make changes I end up rewriting parts of systems that were done years ago by programmers that no longer work here. Also trying some shader tweaks.

Next I have to get the Frostclaw temp model replaced and setup and finish his attack, which is a new type as he throws something at you.

Is this how turds will be brought back into the game? ;) Or perhaps we'll be engaging in a player vs Frost Claw snowball fight. :smow:

@faatal Will the new dynamic severe storms introduced by normal severe weather conditions?

I hope it will be like:
sunny > cloudy > rain > (maybe storm) > cloudy > sunny
instead of
sunny > rain > sunny or
sunny > Severe Storm > sunny again

There should be some kind of transitioning from good to bad weather. Thats a thing that disturbs me even now, the weather changes always very quick. Which can be the case but not always.
Is there an indicator that severe storm is coming? most easy one would be a server message, another subtile option would a distinct cloud formation before such an event (like the reddish moon before bloodmoon).

Hell yes!! More zombies/enemies the better!!

Be careful what you ask for, were getting 2 new tiers above radiated but no new weapons to fight them with, so its going to be even more bullet spongy than it already is since there is no upgraded weapons to deal with the new tiers. Unelss they lower the health of every zombie and the new tip tier has current radiated health while radiated have about half what they do now.

Well 2 points to make here.

The game is balanced for normal difficulty,  so even with higher tier enemies, we have plenty of damage output to handle them.

And they don't need to add more health, they can add new attacks/auras to damage us or give us debuffs to make them more difficult.

More progression the better

I remember on legacy version(console) it would snow in the pine forest every time you turned around, that was probably the only thing I didn't like about the game back then lol
I liked the pine forest, for the trees and wolves, and showing getting closer to the snow

as you went up the mountain slopes.

I did not like the terrain texture, it was too close to the radiated texture. I liked the snow

accumulation, though it was short lived. I think they said it was a hack, so it didn't fit with

the direction of the game. It was a nice visual though. It was on pc

Oh, thank you twice.        Will the overlays be able to be cumulative. So the worse off you are the

more your screen vision is affected.

I don't mean now, but is that a possible thought, or direction. Screen dependence is stronger for

me than the meters. It kind of draws me in.

Basically. Storms are an extension of the weather system. They trigger based on very high precipitation amount. Precipitation, temperature, etc all ramp up and down, so you would see rain/snow before and after a storm. There will be some type of messaging, but that still needs to be done.

The mental image, that I am writing about is, like the screen effect when you are drunk,

But I also imagined hallucinations when you are ill, to repeatedly see enemies that are

not there, even if it is just a gif, or seeing multiple zombies where there may only be one.

If that's the actual in-game image, that's pretty nice.  However, the frost effect seems to take up too much of the screen.  Maybe that is just because it's such a small image?  If it actually takes up that much of the screen, maybe you can ease it back a bit?  I prefer seeing nice graphics on my screen, not blurred or "icy" effects.  It's one reason I always turn off any kind of motion blur in games.  I like clean images and not stuff that's blurred or whatever.  I don't mind that effect at the edge of the screen.  I just would not want it taking up so much of the screen.  I mean, if you look at the top and bottom of the image where the effect is furthest on the screen (towards the left of the image), the effect is about 50% of the screen height (25% top and 25% bottom, with 50% in the middle that's clean).  That's a bit much.  Maybe cut it in half?
