PC How do you communicate with teammates in game?

Do you use just one screen while playing 7dtd, or do you have more up and running at the same time?

Hey folks, just a quick question.  In another thread, someone mentioned 'talking to your teammates', and that got me wondering if my way of playing 7dtd is weird, or the norm.

I don't play 7dtd except with discord up so I can share screen, and talk to everyone in the game.  How do you folks play?

Voice comms with TeamSpeak and/or Discord (not a fan).  I find no need to share screens.

I use Steam to do voice chat.  I'm already using it for the game, so there's no need for additional software.

When I did/do play it is usually discord.

First a quick shot to the head with my pistol...just to get their attention :D

EDIT: I didn't even realize Teamspeak was still a thing.

Ya its still active.  I find it has a much lower footprint on the PC than others (and better sound).  Discord is so bloated now.  Especially for non in-game comms its terrible.  Tracking as convo in a busy channel is impossible and there is no searchable history like forums.

In-game chat. Discord doesn't work in my country, and when it did, I didn't use it. You can also communicate by voice in the game, but I'm too lazy to set up a microphone and connect a headset.

I myself find it cool and quite useful when a friend is having a bit of trouble, to be able to share my screen with them, or have them share their screen with me, and then helping them find whatever content or whatever it is they are having trouble with.

When playing, it is sometimes fun to be able to see your own character, from everyone else's point of view.  Helping a friend find that troublesome courier satchel, or the last zombie in a clear/poi, that can be fun, but it is distracting if your in combat, to be sure.  To each their own I guess.

I am surprised to see that not everybody plays the way I and my friends do, but it is an eye opener to see how others are playing, and enjoying, this game.

I guess, I should also ask, Who uses two monitors while playing 7dtd?  I have my game running on my left screen, and then on the right screen, I have discord up and running, so anyone in the discord voice channel that is streaming, I can watch, keep track of who is in channel, but not sharing/playing, and making use of the video software.

How many folks use two (or more) screens when playing?

I do have a two screen set-up.  One the games are displayed on.  One for all the other normal distractions, sports scores, YouTube, twitch, forums, music, etc.  Other than having something useless and distracting on the second screen in the background I focus on the  game play generally.

Me two.  While I love to be able to glance over and take a look at what someone else is seeing, I mainly focus on what my little digital dude is getting himself into.

I cannot imagine trying to try and help folks in game, without the use of a two screen setup.

See, I am the opposite.  I cannot imagine seeing their screen helping at all.  Sharing my own screen maybe.

Then again I am assuming we are problem solving, not "educating" or "instructing" new players learning the game.

Oh, I would much prefer to have them watch me, if I am trying to show them something they are asking about, but not all of the other I play with have two screens.  When they share their screen with me, I can just watch what they are doing, and tell them where to click on something or the like.  If everyone had two screens, that would be great, but for trying to help folks with just one monitor, it has been my experience that, my being able to just watch their screen is the next best thing.

Most times, it is something like, "Hey War, I cannot find the item I'm supposed to get", or "Hey War, how do I find out how to make this or that".  Most things are really quick and easy to deal with, if I can see what is going on.

I would much prefer to explain it verbally, quickly and succinctly.

If I had to watch someone not click something or worse yet struggle through menus; I would go mad (and get new coop friends).  Its why I don't do IT user support anymore.   I am not here to teach them how to work a computer or navigate menus...

Heh. I like doing IT tech support, but I agree that such support shouldn't be necessary in a game.  If it can't be explained quickly in voice chat, then there is a problem.

Everything can be explained in words. If you lack vocabulary, then perhaps you should take a break from games and read classical literature.

It's strange that this surprises you. All people are different, everyone has a different history, and therefore everyone will have their own perception of the world. And since a person's actions are mainly determined by his experience, knowledge and habits, then in the same situation we will act differently.

It really sounds like you are some sort of mother hen 😁

I think even with a group of newbies it is better to give them general info first and they still have to find out the exact points to click at themselves than feeding them the exact "click there, then there..." (maybe you do that maybe you don't, just mentioning it) . Even if it takes longer initially they learn better when they find stuff for themselves. Though granted, I am not often in the situation to show others a new game.
