PC Growing Crops in Snow Biome (v1.3)

Is this possible at all, using windows for a greenhouse perhaps? Struggling to figure it out. Seems like maybe crops are just locked out of the biome entirely and don't grow. I'd like to make an above ground greenhouse somehow but as of yet, it won't let me plant seeds beneath windows (in farm plot blocks).

Well, looks like they're growing after all... Anyone know the mechanics of the biome? Do they slow down in cold weather at all, or benefit by being sheltered from the elements?

I read something in the xmls, regarding soil types or fertility levels. Not in depth

but I remember that part. You can try to import soil for plots or transplants from the

forest biome, probably where you find patches of cotton red and gold. Then replant

it in the snow and then surround that with window blocks. Just a guess, Never tried it.

That used to be a thing, back when you could till the soil and fertilize it to make farms. But since the introduction of the farm plots, I don't think there's been a state of fertility for plants. Trees do grow to different sizes depending on what they're growing on (sand vs dirt, not sure where snow lands), but your regular corns etc will grow the same everywhere. Needs a farm plot, and a "visible" sky within 7 blocks. 1 diagonal = 2 blocks, and visibility is possible through some blocks, like bars and ladders.

Thanks for that, your post prompted me to go back into the blocks.xml, The fertility

levels are still there, that is probably what I saw when I glossed over it, only commented out.

I wonder if they still actually function, with comments removed.

I think it might because trees are not commented.

I used my sunny disposition to grow shrubbery on my head.  Then old age turned it into a weeping willow.  Now it's more like getting a bowl haircut with one of these:

I farm in the snow biome all the time. It's my preferred biome for a base. As far as I know it works the same as any other biome.

Yeah, I've never seen farming work any different in any biome since I started in A20.  Make sure there aren't any mods installed that affect it, though.  Other than that, it should grow the same in the snowy forest as it does in any other biome.

@PewP3r Oh crud, I didn't think of that. I use a mod that takes me back to farming that doesn't pull the seeds out of the ground. My observations might not be Vanilla. I hope I didn't mislead anyone.

Yea, the Snow Biome is my Biome of choice until I get enough perks to head over to the Wasteland. I grow there all the time, just not indoors.
