Updated Better Biomes (aka Fallen Trees) Mod

This mod has been completely re-worked with the addition of many new foliage assets.  New trees, bushes, grass, flowers, cactus, and tree trunks.

Better Biomes

Nine different custom tree trunks replace the plain, vanilla version.  Because the underbrush makes locating the new trunks more difficult, I have increased their spawn chance in the world.  Additionally, if you see bees flying around, you are relativly close to one.

The hit boxes for the various shrubs and bushes are now located at the surface level.  They can be harvested as normal, or you can place down a frame on the shrub's origin point and it will be removed.

This can be used with existing game-saves. However, you will have to go to areas on the map where you previously have not been.

Fallen trees can be harvested or picked up (for a seed or single wood resource) .

There are various reasons for the, but mainly it to allow the trees to conform to the slope of the terrain and be able to spawn at 45 degree angles - providing a more random look.  If you look at the tree trunk you will see a message that you can pick it up.  You can do this or your can harvest the tree with an axe at this same location.  This is just one of those compromises I had to take in order to get the appearances I was looking for:  One of those pros-vs-cons situations.

****   This is not a server-side only mode for multi-play.  Mod must be installed on all of the clients as well.  ****

I would strongly recommend testing the mod prior to dedicating yourself to a game.  This may not work well if you have an older/slower computer system.

** I would highly recommend using this mod alongside my new Urban Decay mod - the immersion that both mods add to the game is quite satisfying:  Urban Decay

One thing that many folks have encountered is the intermittent flickering of some blocks into and out of visibility.  Turing off Occlusion in the video settings (from the Main Menu - not the in-game menu) will fix this.  Not sure why this happens - I remember even seeing this happen with some vanilla blocks back in A19/A20.  But turning off Occlusion appears to fix this.

Hello Sir.

As I mentioned in my comment on the nexus page for this mod, this is absolutely fantastic.  I could never go back to playing without it.  I did have to turn off the Occlusion, and it worked without hindering anything else in the game (as far as I can see anyway), so thanks for the tip.

The only other issue I am facing is related to another mod I'm using.  I use Script's Vanilla Extended - The Gourmet ( https://www.nexusmods.com/7daystodie/mods/5650 ).  A feature of that mod is the ability to make bee hives (for honey production).  Part of the production cycle for these bee hives is finding 5 drone bees and one queen bee.  Before the addition of Better Biomes these were found by chopping up tree stumps (there is a possibility to get either type of bee, honey, or just wood).

After adding your mod I'm just not getting any bees.  I still get honey at a regular rate, but no bees.  I did some testing with the CM by placing 20 or 30 stumps (of all kinds), and after breaking them all I got no bees (got wood and some honey, but no darn bees).  I am wondering if this is a load order problem.  Should I rename the Gourmet mod to load after yours?  Should I rename yours instead?  What is your opinion on how to resolve this issue?

I know that this really isn't your problem to deal with, so any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

This is seriously one of the best mods I've ever starting using as far as the overall feel of the world.  Even if I can't solve my problem, I will absolutely continue using this mod and speaking it's praises to whoever will listen.  I'll CM the damn bees if I have to lol.

Thanks again.

MPL, been playing with this mod on a new world and it's been blowing me and my group away. It just feels way more like real woods, and the reduced visibility increases the chances for adventure (by which I mean "stepping on cacti" if you have dithered biomes). I'm playing on a serious potato, so I edited the spawning probabilities for everything to be half of what you have as your default--still head and shoulders above a vanilla world, but playable for me on a dedicated server on the other side of the planet, too. Outstanding work!

Hello,

Like I said on the Nexus page, after playing with this mod (alongside Urban Decay) I simply cannot go back anymore to Vanilla. And despite it puts some stress into my Acer Predator Helios 16 Neo, after some minor tweaks here and there, the games looks gorgeous.

However, my only complain is that it messes up the animal tracking system of the game. When I crouch, it doesn't show up any animals on the map at all. I don't know if it is an actual bug, or if it is intentional for making the hunting a little bit more difficult in the middle of all that tall grass.

Nevertheless, it is a great mod. Thanks so much!

This and Urban Decay are utterly amazing mods, the immersion is top notch. I can't help but wonder if TFP adding "foliage and tree improvements" in the next Update is because of Better Biomes, as you proved it can be done, and at least on my rig it doesn't affect my FPS negatively by much at all.

What is the license for  your mods?

Meaning, if someone else wanted to include your better biomes or urban decay mods into an overhaul, what would they need to do? Is permission from you required; and if it is, is it enough, or would they also have to buy assets that are included in these mods? Or is this not even possible?

I looked for either a README or license text in the mods, and didn't see anything.
