I want a realistic chicken farm

I would love to see a realistic means of making a chicken farm. I make a nest, place it, add x amount of eggs to the nest, and it spawns chickens. The nest also produce more eggs when feed is added or something. The chicken coop we can build out of blocks to keep the chickens in. Like below, but i had to install a nest mod to give eggs and feathers and i had to manually spawn in the chicken for realism. Wish something can be made for the pigs too. Or let us buy something from farmer that will allow chickens and pigs to spawn in when placed. Just something simple to make them spawn where you want them to would be nice too. I love to farm, but I also want more than just plant crops.

First, the devs have said they don't intend to add any form of animal husbandry to the game (this includes chicken coops).  Second, you don't get chickens by placing eggs somewhere in real life, so that's not exactly a "realistic chicken farm".  You'd need roosters in the game and only fertilized eggs could produce chickens.

Remember that this is not a real life simulator game or a farming game.  It's a zombie apocalypse game.  The features included in the game will focus more on that than any individual mechanic in the game.  We have farming, but in its current form, it is a simplistic farming that is there just to give you food.  And it isn't something you are going to spend any serious time doing because it's an extremely minor part of the game.  They could add chicken coops or other ways of obtaining eggs or meat, but there needs to be a balance.  Meat and eggs are already extremely easy to get, so making it even easier to get them without ever leaving your base just doesn't make sense in terms of balance.  Could they do it?  Sure... it's their game.  But would it benefit the gameplay or hurt it by making food way too easy?  It isn't about whether or not it is realistic to be able to do this in the game or whether or not it might be interesting or nice or that people might like it.  It's about what works for gameplay without making things too unbalanced.  I suppose if chicken coops required farming magazines of 50 (I know they only go to 20 currently), then it might be fine as you'd be far enough into the game that eggs don't even really matter.  But not something you could build in the first few days.  But either way, they said they don't want to include that in the game.  Maybe they'll consider it as a DLC.

I will take DLC if they make one. Not asking for full realism, but at least the sense of some realism for those who like a bit of that.

Yeah, there's a ton of Chicken coop mods.

It makes sense to ask for it as historically keeping chickens was as low-overhead as you could get for farming livestock, pretty much the entire world does it, and chickens, eggs, and nests are already in the game. That said, I don't expect the devs to add it in and it's not a big deal if they don't.

I wonder what the nicest chicken coop mod is these days?

Giving the chicken coops more purpose would be nice. To be fair I felt a bit dissapointed on my first playthrough when I found the coops at the trader empty. It could be used to balance food a bit better since meat is easy in decent quantities, crops can be grown as much as you need but eggs are a bit rare. Also most wild nests are having often only feathers.
And yes, I know mods do exist but please don't forget the game is also sold on consoles.

I can't agree with you. Chickens are much more difficult to maintain than, for example, ducks.
The ease is not relevant as ducks lay less egs, more rewards justify the extra work. Also there are no ducks in the game so maybe you should suggest to exchange the chickens for ducks?

You probably didn't read the sentence I was responding to carefully. There was a justification for the historicity of the fact of keeping chickens. But this is far from true. If in Southeast Asia chickens were domesticated and started to be bred about 3-4 thousand years ago, then in America it appeared only with immigrants from Europe. And in Europe itself, chickens were bred mainly in the south and center, in the north geese were more common.

If we talk about the game, then chickens in the forest binomial are still understandable, but in the winter they cause surprise. Chickens do not tolerate frost very well, it would be more logical to call them pheasants and change the model a little.

I've red it all lol

The thing is that there are already chickens and coops in the game. Your are absolutly correct but since I've seen as much chicken as zeds last time I was in the snow I think we should keep it a bit simple. Devs have already enough work to keep us happy, not?

take a look at some of the twitch blocks/events  i have made a pig spawner from modifying these

place a nest, wait for it to evolve (1 grow cycle) becomes a spawner  walk close to it, it spawns several chickens though the events) next is broken and reset to empty next, add feed to it and restart the cycle
