I thought i had my game locked to 1.0 but today i was playing for a couple hours when my game froze and crashed. I tried to load back in where i noticed on my save file that it had updated to 1.1. When i spawned in my console drops down and i get the same errors over and over console error below

2024-10-01T22:35:51 162.395 INF 18273 Vehicle Postinit [type=EntityVJeep, name=vehicleTruck4x4, id=15238], (-282.62, 70.60, -1817 .04) (chunk -18, -114 ), rbPos (-368.00, 32.00, -1872.00)

2024-10-01T22:35:51 162.396 EXC ArgumentException: An item with the same key has already been added. Key: 15238

I tried to load in several times so i have multiple logs, i will include them all if the actual log when the crash happened is needed

I do have a save backed up from before it updated so if this is not fixable i guess i can revert to game version 1.0 and load that save? I would obviously not want to lose the progress but if that's the only fix, then it is what it is.

Thank you for any help on this! I truly appreciate it

The crash is a generic gpu driver failure, could be due to the issues Intel has been having. Make sure you have the latest bios update.

I'll play around with crashing to try to reproduce it, but for your save, deleting the vehicles.dat (and bak if there is one) should in theory fix your save, give that a try.

Thanks @Jugginator deleting the two files worked but it did two things, it left a gazillion 4x4 markers on the map, that i could live with but it obviously deleted the vehicles (which i knew beforehand with your advice) the problem was that i was moving my base to the wasteland so my vehicles had so much of my loot in them that i can't live without. I'm playing vanilla so I'm sure there is a console command to spawn the stuff back in, but i think i will lose achievements if i do that so with that being said, i rolled back to a previous save on 1.0 and that works, i just lost a couple days of work. i do have 7d2d locked on steam to 1.0 for now

Does 7d2d make any other backups? or is it just the one save in the folder? if so we should all be making backups routinely incase our pc decides to crash and corrupt files

Can you reference this bios issue so i can look into it further? I'm running a ROG Maximus z790 and i understand this isn't an intel support thread so i get it if that's not supposed to be discussed here.

Just wanted to say thank you for your quick response and help

You're welcome - and no worries! To start with the Intel fiasco, here's a thread they started with recent updates July 2024 Update on Instability Reports on Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen Desktop Processors - Intel Community. Unfortunately, if you have been having crashes, you might have permanent damage to the chip (which they are offering no-questions asked RMA's, so might be good on a rainy day when you can live without your CPU for a bit if the bios updates don't work). Specifically, your bios update is here ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO - Support (asus.com), they also have a guide, it's pretty straightforward. Note the HERO did pull on on search, I'm not sure if that board is always called HERO or if it's a different version, so make sure first.

The game doesn't make backups like that due to file size. If you'd like, you can DM me the save folder (and world if it's using RWG) and I can take a look, that messed up pretty good, sorry about that 😕. I can poke around and see if I cant figure out a way to fix it without breaking everything else.

You CAN use the creative menu indeed, without ruining your chances at achievements. You'll want to load it up, enter "cm" without quotes into the F1 console window, grab whatever you need to out of the creative menu, turn cm off, exit the game, reload it, and you should be fine there. Note this may or may not change in the future, but it'll work for now.

Oh, one more thing, while there are lots of sources everywhere for this, I will add that they've discovered crashes can point to quite a few things, like GPU driver failure, RAM failure, or general kernal BSOD's. For what it's worth, normally I would suggest reinstalling your GPU driver, which may still be worth doing just in case, but the instabilities from those chips can cause OS's or games to think it was a GPU failure.

Who are you @Jugginator, lol love to see helpful people still out there. People like you are an important part of games but get little credit. Thank you so much for your help and your continued offers to help me.

After reading your post i did some homework on the i9-13900 because prior i was having issues where 7d2d would just freeze and crash but just to desktop, it never affected anything so i didn't pay much attention but after you mentioned the issues i updated my Maximus Z790 Hero bios to the latest version ( you'd think with a $700 MB and $500 chip we wouldn't have these "stability" issues) Although the bios was about 15 months old. I did notice in the bios update notes that it was primarily for the 13900 and 14900 stability issues so hopefully this will fix it. Then i used DDU to wipe all old GPU drivers and install fresh from Asus website.

Thank you for the offer on fixing my save, that is very nice of you, but I've past the deficit already with the heavy gaming sesh last night so no worries there.

Thank you for the confirmation on the creative menu, this makes me feel better moving forward if it crashes out again. I'm just making backups every night of the entire saves folder, not sure i need the entire folder or just the world named folder but whatever.

And lastly thank you again for being a supportive person and active in a community that helped me out big time! unfortunately I've contributed nothing to this community as the nature of the beast is to come looking when you have a problem, but i will pay it forward.

Thanks again,

You're welcome! Thanks for the kind words - definitely uplifting :). I may be an employee but that definitely doesn't stop me from helping the community when I can, it's an awesome group of people. And if it helps the game, win-win! I'll try to setup some tests with a force crash to see if I can replicate that.

And yeah Intel dropped the ball with 13-14 gen cpus, they could have fixed it way earlier but they were kind of stuck up about it and passed it off until it couldn't be ignored anymore. Pretty much it was a voltage issue, where it would receive way higher voltage spikes than it needed and way out of supported limits, which would cause crashing to save itself. They did admit damage can be permanent, so like I said, if you have a time where you aren't going to be using it for a while I'd get an RMA done and get a new replacement.

As far as backups, you don't need the world unless you somehow lose that too, so one backup would be suffice just in case (just dont forget to backup to another drive, in case you lose the drive). You can utilize File History too, just point it to the save folders directly (don't do what I accidentally did and put the entire appdata directory as backup... my backup drive was suddenly very full lol).

Have fun!
