PC Charging batteries, mods for workstations, max game stage

First of all, I would like to thank you for bringing the game to its current state. Iam playing since alpha 3 and I don't remember such difficult beginnings. I like when its hard, it helps me become more creative. So far 24 day, 120 GS, and zero deaths but I was infected, starving and thirsty a lot. Also game feels for me more optimized. I didnt changed the pc, and I have more fps then I used to have. Is there any maximum games stage value? Or it will just grow forever?

Is there any way now to charge batteries in a game? I Cant find solar panels, are the thrown away?

Is there any list of mods for workstation that I can search from? I have couple workstations and bunch of raw materials but I dont know the name of mods for dew collector for example. From time to time I can see some of those in the trader stock, but I always save money for bullets and books, and later on, when I am in the base again, I cant remind myself the names...

Charging batteries - one generator bank, one motor - provides 50 watts of power.  That can charge up to 10 battery banks (in theory since they only need 5 watts of power to charge) but you are limited by number of wire outputs so you would need at least one relay to max out the number of battery banks you have

The most I had in this type of setup though was 2 battery banks charged by one generator bank, I then would swap out empty batteries with full batteries and repeat the charging cycle.

Ok, so I connect generator bank with battery bank and I have to run them both? Or only generator bank on? I had set up where I connected battery bank (I bought one from trader)  with dozens of electric fence posts as a series circuit, and then finally I was able to create generator bank, so I put it in front  of battery bank. If I will turn on generator bank, and keep off battery bank, will current go further for electric fence and battery bank will be charged, or should I skip battery bank to power up fence, and create second setup for charging batteries?

If you have both a battery bank and a power source (generator or solar) connected to stuff, only one will function at a time.  Power source is used until it runs out of gas or gets dark and then batteries are used.

With solar, you want a battery bank so you still have power overnight.  With a generator, it depends how likely it is that you forget to keep it full of gas.  Of course, if you can't keep it full of gas, you probably won't remember to fill it up before the batteries die either.  Heh.

To your question about solar, it is will in the game. You don't find it until your game stage is high enough and traders have a very low chance to have any solar cells (solar banks aren't hard to find).  You can only buy them and cannot craft it find them.  You will need to travel to every trader every few days if you want to get many solar cells and it will still take time.

The dew collector mods aren't crafted.  You will need to buy them if you want them.

What I did (and this is before I could use solar power to power my base / defenses) was used battery banks to power the base / defenses.  The generator bank was solely used to charge the batteries up when I depleted them.  I typically have a charging room setup in my base just for that purpose.

That's a decent setup if you want a 100% uptime, but a bit of manual work. When I rarely go batteries, I tend to automate a charging period in the primary system itself; a genny into a timer that's on from 0900 to 1000, into the battery bank that drives everything. Keeps it topped up with very little fuel use, and is perfect for replacing with solar later on.

Could be expanded with a secondary from another timer/battery combo to run while the primary is down, but I've never felt the need.

I have never charged batteries other than when connected to solar for automatic night use.  I have never seen any reason to charge them, so if always seems strange to great people with charging stations set up.  😀

Have you not seen the 4k posts I have made so far?
Well, more interestingly, I have also seen you describe your setup before, and probably replied to it as well ... :D

Mainly I was just offering the timer-idea as an option, not exactly surprised at you not being averse to a bit of work .. :)

It is quite common to find batteries in a partially charged state. If you are going to sell them to a dealer, it is better to charge them first, otherwise the price will be lower.

Yes, sometimes they appear for sale at merchants. Only with the update a problem appeared. The merchant stopped selling items with quality 6, which also affected solar cells. So now their maximum quality is 5.

I also have never sold batteries.  And I don't bother repairing anything I do sell.  Money is so easy to come by in this game that there isn't any point.

That's also a handy way to check that your charging station is working properly. There's a lot of moving parts and there's no indication for "charging" - but you can see the price go up while properly charging, select the first battery and wait a couple seconds... :)

A lot of moving parts?  It's 2 parts - generator or solar bank attached to a battery bank.  As long as you are generating power and properly wired together (you'll see that there is power consumption on the generator or solar bank), then it is working.

And the manual switches between, and the two timer setup connected to the two battery banks and on/off toggles in the genny and the bank and the fuel state of the genny .. and only one of those was "extra" for my setups .. 😛

Yeah, I may have overengineered that a bit, but it's easier to check the battery price than even just to run back to the genny ... :D

Heh.  Well, if they aren't far apart, you can hear both battery bank and generator running to know if there is fuel and if they are turned on.  Timers would add more to keep track of, but I haven't wired something backwards in a VERY long time and I'm sure you haven't either, so it isn't likely that you'd mess that up.  :)

But, okay... you do make it sound like a lot more parts than how I looked at it.  Heh.

I think they need to allow us to make solar cells at different levels of electronics.  I mean we can build basically everything else.  Truncate the batteries down, and bring in solar panels in the last tier of that crafting tree.

That, or they need to put them back into traders in a way that isn't a nightmare to deal with.  You need to be able to find Q6 panels regularly once you reach a certain game stage.  It shouldn't be a low chance of finding any panels, but a guarantee to have at least one panel all the time at each trader and then still a decent chance of it being Q6.
