choppy laggy

I'm experiencing lag/drops low frame rates with GTX 1660 Ti.    The game pauses and lags.

I'm going to upgrade my drivers to see if that helps.

Do you run Vsync on? It seems I get bad stutters/low FPS in spells with it on, and each game update seems to turn it back on for some reason.

When reporting an issue, read the Pinned threads first....

A log would really help to see what you have going on there.

I'm sure that you have given the same advice to 100's of people.

But could you please tell me how to post a log that will be analyzed and evaluated by the porgrammers?

I already did. Right there in the post you attempted to quote is the link to the Pinned thread that has the instructions telling you how to do that.

This is the general support section where players can ask for assistance in trying to track down issues with their game.  Usually when one posts a logfile, other users can review it and provide assistance of what issues you are seeing.

If you truly believe it is an issue for the developers, then you need to click the red banner that you see at the top of the webpage (that states Report a V1.0 bug) and follow the directions there on how to submit a bug to them.

OK< here is a pastebin containing two of my most recent logs, and the startup log:

I hope this helps.  I did try turning of vsync, and that helped a little bit.  But the game is still super choppy since the last update.

1. Stop using mod launcher.

2. Your laptop is below min-spec for the CPU and will fall even further when it gets warm. Drop video settings to help keep it cooler and find ways to crank up the fan speed.

3. You're having some connection issues. Ensure you follow this instruction.

4. This log only has like one minute of gameplay, so there isn't much real information to go on. The one single entry for performance shows an FPS of 75.

"1. Stop using mod launcher. "

I'm not sure what that means.  Launch from steam instead of using the icon the game put on my desktop?

"2. Your laptop is below min-spec for the CPU and will fall even further when it gets warm. Drop video settings to help keep it cooler and find ways to crank up the fan speed. "

I've run 5 years of 7days with this laptop without issues.   Are you sure this isn't an optimization issue?   Otherwise I guess you are suggesting that I need to lower my settings, because the game has grown in terms of its cpu/video needs?

"3. You're having some connection issues. Ensure you follow this instruction. "

That link you sent seems to be focused on anti-virus?   OK, I turned off bitdefender all all windows AV.  (I'll check in a minute to see if that helps things).

I'll play longer and generate a longer log for you.

But unless the AV was the issue, it seems like the cpu/video specs of 7 days has increased drastically in 1.0, and your suggestions indicate I should probably just buy a faster laptop.

You know, 99% of players probably don't post on these forums.  So changing the required specs for a game has probably hindered the vast majority of players.

Your log data indicates that it is being run from a mod launcher. So you might want to completely nuke your client and refresh. Check that you don't have any strange startup arguments.

So you're saying you have been lucky.  Min spec hasn't changed much since a20, though the client is a bit more demanding now than it used to be. I have petitioned for clearer specs, and have been asking TFP to do something about how freaking vague they are for several years. Your CPU did not meet min spec when it was released.
Minimum spec is four cores at 2.8GHz. Your CPU sitting idle is 2.6GHz, which is below spec. When it is used, it will probably ramp up to 3.2GHz, which is fine for a while until it gets warm and the CPU and GPU get throttled so it doesn't overheat.  You got a laptop. You chose to sacrifice performance for mobility. The game requires performance.

An 8th-generation Intel desktop chip will run 20% faster than your laptop. I have an i7-3930k that will run faster than your laptop with its current overclock.

That link you sent seems to be focused on anti-virus?   OK, I turned off bitdefender all all windows AV.
If you turn it off, it just gets replaced with Windows Defender, which is worse.  Exclude the game client and save directories. AV software scanning the packets or holding processing data for scanning will cause network latency and can cause poor performance. Poor WiFi increases network latency. ext. there is a whole post on this as well in the same FAQ thread.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me great suggestions.

The long term answer is probably a new laptop.  But I'll try to make things work for now.   Again, thank you.

I just installed and played alpha's 16 through 20.  Every one of them runs perfectly on my laptop.  There's something un-optimized about 1.0.
