Wires are invisible

Hello. Wires (for example between two relays) are invisible unless I hold a wire tool. I have a fresh install of the game and have no mods installed. I've tried various graphics settings, but it doesn't affect the issue. The problem is visual, but still annoying.

The game logs: https://pastebin.com/kC5R4jSn

The example of how it looks in game.

With the wire tool:

15861ACE96EC210902E15EB4E19E73BEC0B9A7E7

Without the wire tool:

That's intended. Many people didn't like the visible wires. There was at least one mod for A21 that added them back, don't know if any are updated for 1.0.

Really? That's dumb. The wires are invisible, but the need for relays remained and now when I need to run an invisible wire I need to place very visible, but now seemingly meaningless relays all around.

The game devs should have just added a toggle for wires invisibility to the game options.

You would still need relays, so nothing changes about your wiring design.  Most people didn't like wires being visible or having to use far more relays to keep wires out of the way.  This way, you save on relays and therefore power consumption.  As a note, there is a setting for how long wires can be.  I forget where that is (maybe serverconfig.xml), but you can increase the distance so you ain't need relays.

I mean, what's the point of relays without wires visually attached to them? They just look useless sitting on the walls/ceilings/floors all by themselves, not connected to anything (at least looking so). And I still need a lot of them if I want to run multiple power lines (since the devs still don't allow merging wires, only splitting them is possible).

Well, as you said, they do allow splitting and are useful when configuring AND or OR logic for things like powered doors.  They could make the wire longer by default, of course.  Not sure if there is some reason they don't do that by default now that wires are hidden.  Like I said, they did add the ability to adjust the distance when they hid wiring, so they seem aware that needing relays isn't really that important anymore.

Are there AND/OR logic gates in the game? I couldn't find any of that.
I don't think there is "while playing" (without mods) and i think this is possible though for POi builders and the key racks controlling doors opening. I think i read/heard on some dev thing recently where they were/had put in logic for the POI doors/keyracks to have this, but possibly no existing pre 1.0 POis used it yet

Annoyed opinion Edit: i hate the invisible wires default and also want so much more effort put into the existing electrical systems. I also wish there was a global "toggle" for allowing all lights to be turned on/off/configured in game (by the player) without using a mod as a basic feature. I love having all sorts of machines humming and switches and wires to deal with (that can be destroyed).

Not exactly, but you can get the effect in a limited way.  Two sensors connected together work as an OR gate (only one needs to be triggered for everything following to work).  If you place anything between two sensors (such as a relay), they work as an AND gate (both need triggered for everything following to work).  Very useful for powered doors with a camera inside and out.  Also useful if you want multiple trigger plates to trigger something.

Think of it as wiring the sensors that are connected to one another in parallel and if there is something between them, they are not in parallel.  Similar to a logic gate in effect, but anyway limited and only with AND and OR.

Umm... I haven't tried this, but wouldn't it work a little different? If I build a power line like this: Power Source -> Sensor 1 -> Sensor 2 -> Door - then when Sensor 1 gets powered it'll just power up Sensor 2, not the Door. And only if both sensors are powered up the door will open. That's kind of an AND gate, but not OR gate.

No.  It is a special case.  Two in sequence without anything between them only need one to trigger.  Like I said, think of it like wiring those in parallel when they are connected together even though you aren't physically wiring them that way.

The limitation is just wire length because of you out anything that isn't a sensor between them, they will turn into an AND gate, so you need the sensors to be close enough to connect together.

I wire my garage door this way all the time. One camera inside, one outside.  Either one will open the door.  You can do this with a drawbridge as well, or basically anything else... Lights, traps, etc.  Any sensor/trigger works.

Huh, it works. Too bad the game doesn't explain such quirks of wiring.

But in any case, it doesn't solve the problem of invisible wires. I want to see them. That's final.

Well, I doubt we will see them return in vanilla.  But since there was an A21 mod for it, I'm sure that will eventually be updated for 1.0.

And yeah, the game doesn't explain writing well.  I learned that through Google/YouTube a couple years ago.
