Game quits at "loading block textures"

I will check the swap file, it has been a long time since I've looked there, but I have restarted the game numerous times.  I die often and play permadeath :).

It is being managed by windows out of C:\.  I remember going this route after going SSD year before last.

Weird because the game was doing dandy until an update or two ago.

Hate to bring this up, but I had an AMD gpu that started to die this way. You may want to use DDU to wipe it all out if you haven't yet, and maybe lower the voltage/underclock it a bit if that doesn't work.

What is DDU?

Here is pastebin

I was looking at known issues and maybe this has something to do with it:

Game doesn’t shut down properly on PC and Linux after long play session

I found the DDU, I will run it and see how it goes.

Yeah, pretty much, you download a new driver, boot into safe mode, use DDU to uninstall the old driver, reboot, install the new driver.

And no that's nothing with that known issue, that's hardware/driver.

"GPU: Microsoft Basic Render Driver (4061 MB)"

Yeah, that tells me your GPU driver failed horribly. That's what happens when... well, let's just say that happens when the absolute worst things happen lol. See how it goes with the fresh driver install.

"You're killing me smalls" :)

Hope it just a "dirty" driver issue.  I did the DDU thing.

BTW, wonder why it fails on ini, but not during long sessions.  Like I have yet to have the game freeze or system lock up during game play.

Well, not having a system lockup is a good sign. Likely failing because it's having issue initializing everything properly, if you get lucky it may get it done without failure and allow you to play. Just speculating.

DDU appears to have done the trick.  I have done 2 hot launches (i.e. no restarts) with not issues.

I did a stress test of the GPU with no issues as well.

/fingerscrossed

Is back.

So, something in the system doesnt like the game, or something in the game doesnt like my system.  I have run all hardware tests that I can think of.  Other than reinstalling the OS, which I am not inclined to do so atm, I iwll just be restarting the system before playing.....like the old days if Win95 heh.

The next time you play the game without restarting your system, check the memory allocation.  I recall having a similar issue in a previous computer of mine where memory was not being unallocated to a game so it had a lot less free memory when I tried to play a different game.  Restarting the computer always fixed the issue for me which is how I found out the issue eventually.

How do I look a mem allocation?  Are you talking about Virtual file?  Right now windows is managing it.

This one sounds better.  Question is, how much ram from the 16gig the system has?

Can You Allocate More RAM To Steam Games?

Like the other methods above, you can't manually adjust Steam games to use a certain amount of memory. However, with a bit of tinkering with the settings, you can fix lag and low FPS problems using the in-app 'Launch Options'.

Follow these steps:

 1. In your Steam Library, right-click on the game you wish to allocate more RAM and select Properties.
 2. Here you'll find the Launch Options under the General tab.
 3. You can use various commands in this box, but for now, we'll be using the -heapsize command.
 4. Type -heapsize <value>, where <value> is the amount of RAM in KB you want to dedicate as cache for the game (Example: -heapsize 6291456).

What does the GPU device list in the output log? Does it say the Microsoft driver again? Also, it may help to check your event viewer to see if anything is reporting errors. You can export the Application and System one and give them to me and I'll have a look.

I will when I get home.

I saw a system unexpectedly shutdown.

But before that there is few com and permissions errors.

Btw I never saw that line you quoted.  So I thought I was missing something.

Yeah when you see that, it means the driver failed horribly and it reverted to the Microsoft basic driver, it's proven and known to work with pretty much anything so when stuff happens it'll go to that. Event viewer may prove useful, so we'll look at that next.
