Real City Maps

I was just thinking how cool it would be if the devs made maps of actual cities that could be downloaded. Like New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, Chicago, etc.

It would be really cool because people could play in cities they know or want to visit.

Imagine fighting zombies in the subway of New York, or on Hollywood back lots. How about in the Underground of Seattle? Maybe on the strip of Las Vegas with all the strippers (personally I wish you had not changed them into party girls. It's like denying they exist and trying to make the game "G" rated.)
 

Perhaps start with US cites and expand world wide. London, Paris, Rome, even the Kremlin (I know I'd love to blow it up ATM). I think this would add a lot more realism than just random places.

That would be an ambitious undertaking to say the least.  Plus, it would eventually just become like Navezgane where you know where everything is at. Which takes some of the fun out of it.

I would rather them continuing to improve RWG than add more maps.

I think they did this for streamers/youtubers so they wouldn't get banned.

Well like I said, they would be available for download, not in the vanilla game itself. I believe in options and i know everyone won't like everything.
The RWG definitely needs improvement with many more options. I used to use Nitrogen to make maps with. It made really nice maps, but unfortunately it hasn't been updated for a long time and I think Damocles (I believe that is his name) stopped working on it. KingGen is another one that seems to be abandoned as well.
 

While I understand this idea won't appeal to everyone, I would like to have the option of using a map of a real city. I think some others might enjoy it as well. But we'll see.

This sounds fun but... for realistic point of view - it's impossible. Why? it would need tons of new props + rly big POI but there is high limit. And it would need to be handmade so it would be even year to make one map - for example try too recreate even something small like riverside from l4d1 - you would spend +- year to recreate this map in 7dtd

I would think that it would be even more possible with the new maps because they support tunnels and have many more POIs now and lots more shapes. Doesn't need to be exact, just close. Like a 16k map would be about a 10 mile square area. That would cover a good chunk of a city like New York. Not the whole thing of course, but plenty to make it seem realistic enough.

Yeah it might take you or me a year to make one, but the devs gotta be much faster than us right? (crosses fingers). If TFP put just 1 or 2 on it I think they could do it, besides, they will be informed of any updates long before they happen. And if they are working on maps anyways, they could improve the whole RWG system at the same time to make the maps better all around.

Ofc that devs would make this... much slower. Why? because they have to do much  things like bandits. And as you say it was a small fragments of cities not map of city +  map have to be playable ( by this i mean buidling need zombie spawns, furnitures etc. so this would be a lot of work MANUALY. RWG wound't help in anything. because even road would need to done manualy.

To give you example let take random small city  - there is called lubiewo ( 53°27'57.0"N 18°01'15.1"E ) - try to recreate city as best as you can. You will spend at least year to do just road + buidling without even making furnitures .

Well cities in USA have "regular" streets so if lubiewo is too hard try recreate Winona in missisipy 33°28'57.3"N 89°44'00.8"W

Probably named of this stated was polished.  This idea is good- Cod paris map, Gmod maps have real live locations but - make this in gmod forced guy from russia to spend halve of year to recreate his city ( this city is pretty small). So this is just not realistic. It sounds good like 100 variants of zombie - it would be rly nice but there is not chance for this

Oh man, look you guys obviously haven't thought this through. Ever heard of Prefabs? There are already hundreds of buildings saved as prefabs. You can see them all if you go into the editing options on the main screen. These buildings come complete with furniture and zombies already in them. It's just a copy paste to place them.
10 square miles means you can make a map that has 100 square miles in it. I mean where do you think the Navezgane map came from? It probably took less than a year for the first version of 7D2D to come out complete with maps and a map generator.

Once you have the terrain laid out all you do is pick places for certain buildings and paste them in. You don't need new zombies, the buildings only need to resemble the city. You guys are thinking of a perfect recreation of a city and that's just not what I'm talking about. Yes you would probably want to make a few new buildings that are landmarks, but really you'd only need a dozen or so to pull it off.

But you don't get it that the devs have tools for this sort of thing. They have been working on this game for nearly 20 years now. You think they have not come up with faster ways to make changes? I have made mods and used the prefabs before. I'm telling you this is not all that hard and I bet they could make a city map in less than a week. And like I said, they could do it while they are making the map system better.
 

So why do you wish to argue over it? You said you would like this, why are you worried about how much work it is for the devs? It's their job, they get paid for it. I imagine they don't hire just anyone. These guys are experts at what they do. How about we wait and see if a dev says it's impossible?

So you suggest use random bulding right? i talk about the best  recreation as possible  ( for example make church similiar to real life church in this same location) like gmod style. So if you want to do something - do this good or do nothing.  So yeah they are paid for that but they think about quality too

I mean, it's not a bad idea, but not something I'd want the devs putting time into until after the game goes gold and any story stuff is in place. Maybe make it a proper detailed map and make it dlc.

They need to team up with Asobo Studios.  Flight Sim 2020 is amazing even for map areas that are completely AI generated.  Their prefab building placement on top of google earth or bing maps and plugged i to 7 days would be amazing.  
 

But alas, total pipedream.

The trick would be RNG skyscrapers, where the skyscrapers have an internal RNG system that changes when a quest is activated.

FYI the first Alpha was around 2013 so no, not nearly 20 years.

Everything seems easy when you are not the one doing all the work.....and they have other priorities right now than to dedicate team members to make realistic city maps.

Then there is also the fact that RWG is their ultimate goal as it allows for more replayablility as it changes up the worlds.  Static maps really don't fit in that mindset.  As was mentioned before, probably a hopeful DLC release maybe.

Thx for support  well - even recreation of paris in minecraft few years but it very simple ( well without stuff inside buidling + don't care too much about colors and small architectures just  shapes)
