PC Hard disk Partition getting full

I do not know if anyone have noticed the game need around 5GB space on windows partition just to open the game although you install the game on a separate partition. 
My Disk only good 5GB left after recent windows update. Also I cant play 7 days for more than 5 mins I keep crashing because the hard disk has no space to write. I have many other games but no such issue. It makes no sense why we get the option to install the game on a separate partition but it still need space to keep writing what ever the temp files in windows partition, before the windows update I ran the game and it took 1GB space every 30 mins. 


I see less playing 7 days soon after update.. it could be the reason.

The game is installed in the partition that you chose, however the saved games/worlds are usually located under "C😕Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie". A large game/world can take up to several gigs to store, so if you have a few, it is expected to take up several gigs.

Can you change the location of the saves? I don't know :(

 
There was a bug report recently with exactly this issue.

As i already answered there: Probably creating a hardlink with the name of the 7d2d saves directory, leading to another partition could work. But i never tested this.

Furthermore: User created data is supposed to be put in the user folder. So technically it is correct to put the world files there. It's more or less a dum @%$# from windows since ages, to put the user folder on the system partition and additionally make it so @%$#ing hard to move it to somewhere else.

With just 5 gigs free on the system partition, you will get pretty much fun anyway with future windows updates sooner or later.

 
You probably have stuff left over from prior Windows updates that you can delete. Right click on your disk drive and choose the clean option, I forget exactly what it says, and one of the options is clean up system files. Pick that one. you'll need to enter the administrator's password if you're not playing as administrator which you definitely should not be.

 
Am just guessing here but from you pic I would say you have a 1 terabyte drive you partitioned into 5 drives. I don't know why you made your C drive so small if that is the case. If I am right can you allot more space to your C drive from one (or more) of the others.

did more that 20 times.. I have nothing installed on it.. just the software install 50 on C drive.. which is stupid 

 
Since your C partion is pretty full maybe you should think about to move some of the appdata location to another drive.

And since your music is pretty full too, maybe you should think about to add a second harddisk for them.

Even an external USB3 or better drive can do the job.

It don't made much sense to split 1 harddisk into that many partitions. Once music is moved, you can merge that partion with the windows one.

 
100GB for the operating system should be way enough. Especially if programs and games are installed to separate partitions.

Either you have a lot of left behind stuff from e.g. graphics drivers or stuff lost in the temp folder or there is a lot of data in your userfolder, also from other programs.

You should check where the space is lost and then try to clean up.

You have been mentioning updates. If by that you mean a Windows Inplace Upgrade, it leaves behind a folder c:\windows.old which is a) pretty huge and b) will be auto deleted after 30 days afaik. To remove it prior to that point, some workaround has to applied but it is possible.

Another quick solution to get some breathing room would be to move the pagefile to another partition.

Make your windows paging file smaller.
I max mine at 4gb. Welcome to windows 10.
Windows leaves behind old system files EVERY. TIME. YOU. UPDATE.
I suggest ccleaner. Very popular IT tool for cleaning disk. (take free version, 100% works for the thing u using it for)

The only thing 7d2d saves to C rather than your steam DIR. is for: Saved worlds, saved games and admin permissions.
10kmap is roughly 1gb.
Most people are playing less because not alot changed from 19.2->19.3, is very common.

Delete your unused 7d2d saves, use Ccleaner to remove all those old windows files that just take up space and do some general PC maintenence.
Also, you can use 2 steam directories if you like so you can store 7d2d on that very open "Software" partition.
In the end tho, youve screwed yourself by having so many partitions with empty, unused space for quite literally no reason.
Shrink your drives and give more back to C. or spend tthe 30 dollars for a 500gb NVme from newegg.

Its not 7d2d fault you have poor partitons. xD
That is a 'I think I know more about PCs than I actually do' problem.

1tb HDD split into 5 partitions. YIKES.
His next windows update is going to cause a system crash that he wont be able to recover from and windows likely failed its last installation due to lack of space. LOL.
100% honesty, if 7d2d is his actual only problem on that PC, im actually impressed because the level of pure dumb luck that would need is intense when windows most likely cant even install an OS update... xD

It was me that said it looked like he had a 1Tb hard drive in 5 partitions. He never confirmed that from what I can see.

Quickly calculating the sizes shows it's little bit more than 1TB. But that doesn't matter. Even if it is more than one physical drive, the space is scattered over partitions. And the negative effect of partitions is, that their sizes are fixed. So once a partition is full, it's simply full, even if the partition next to it is still 90% free.

If you want partitions for short(er) path names, there are better ways without this disadvantage. E.g. you could mount a specific folder with it's own drive-letter, by using subst or ntfs also can do that itself.

He did say his "Partitions were full" not "HDD or SSD is full." Therefor, I would guess he has a 1tb drive into 5 partitions. Not that it matters overly much like Liesel said but I digress, his problem isnt caused by 7d2d but rather his own HD logic. :x

I would like an option on where to save the files.  Never liked everything going into the C drive.

I move as much as I can off there to somewhere else. Anywhere else.

E, F or G. (D is the DvD)

You can do this now. And you can do it without fancy hardlink redirects.

Putting saves on a different drive or path for the Client

Note: This is very helpful if you are running two versions of the client.

  1. In your Steam games list, right-click the game in the left menu, and choose "Properties".
  2. Click the "Local Files" Tab
  3. Click the "Browse local files" button.
  4. Copy serverconfig.xml file, and rename the copy to serverconfig.SP.xml (or any other name you'll remember).
  5. Open serverconfigSP.xml in notepad and edit the save path to where you want the 7DTD Gamesaves to be stored.
    Most of the serverconfig.xml properties are ignored when running the Client version of the game, but that property does carry over correctly.
    Here is an example from my file:
    <property name="SaveGameFolder" value="D:\GameSaves\7DTD\a19Saves" />
  6. Save AS serverconfig.SP.xml
  7. Now go back to your Steam client library.
  8. In your Steam games list, right-click the game in the left menu, and choose "Properties".
  9. In the General Tab, click the "Set Launch Options" button.
  10. Place the following in the box:
  11. -configfile=serverconfig.SP.xml

    Now when you start the game it will use your set path for the save files.
I currently use this to separate save paths across several different game builds, and also so I can put the saves on a faster drive than my Windows system drive.
