PC A20 Developer Diary Discussions

Testing. Last post before this was Tuesday. Checking to see if there's a problem...

Please disregard otherwise.

Wow! I knw they were redoing some of the biomes, but I must say... the new desert looks sooo real!  :photo:

Also, trucks confirmed for A20!!  :whoo:

This has completely obliterated the vibe in here.

The old system was additive, people would add to the discussion which occassionally prompted devs to add to the discussion which in turn prompted the people to add, and so on...

The current system is subtractive.  Anything not within a very limited set of parameters is removed, this leads to less discussion among the people which in turn leads to less interaction from the devs which, in turn, leads to less discussion from the people, and so on...

To put it simply.  We are only supposed to post as a direct response to a dev.  Are we just waiting for a dev to blurt out random facts?  How do the people encourage interaction from the devs?

Change is hard. You like to talk a lot and the new focus stifles you so I get it. Snowdog isn't going to get to talk about MMA and porn as much so I get his disappointment. You are mistaken if you think that fewer side discussions have anything to do with Madmole posting there less.

You are also mistaken that you are only supposed to post direct responses to a dev. You can ask questions about A20 AND respond directly to a dev. Asking relevent questions is how best to encourage interaction from a dev.

It's perfectly fine for the dev diary thread to have nothing posted in it since last Tuesday. It means that when Madmole does come back he will actually see the on topic posts instead of all the off topic stuff posted since then. When something worth reporting happens and Madmole comes back to talk about it there will be plenty of vibe and all of that will stay in the dev diary. But there has been nothing new reported in about a month so it makes sense that there isn't a lot of content for the dev diary and why should somone's legitimate question on Tuesday be covered up and muddied by a bunch of fluff like:

One word: elevators

Two words: attack helicopters

Three words: Zombies in Cities

Forewords: Preface to a book

6 or 7 pages of that and Madmole won't scroll back far enough to find actual on topic questions regarding A20.

Am I crazy or can you not drink directly from a water source? I can't believe I haven't noticed this until now.  No issues, just hard to imagine in thousands of hours that I've never found this out lol.

I mean, does it really matter at this point? The forums are pretty much dead now and besides Faatal, none of the devs post here anymore.  Well madmole once in a blue moon but ya, awfully quiet around here now days.  Do what you feel is right though of course 😉
We are pretty much just trying to get tasks done. Dev talk should pick up as we get closer to A20 exp.

You can ask questions about A20
Will A20 feature a rear naked choke or any other MMA moves? —- or will A20 ramp up nudity?

i like drinking both water and milk directly from the source.

Semi-related to this, it’s impossible to deplete a naturally occurring water block.  Even a single water block, disconnected from others so it can’t logically refill, you can draw from as many times as you want.

This is one thing I’m really hoping to see fixed when they do the water overhaul.  I’m holding out hope that water survival might actually become meaningful, if the first source you find isn‘t always infinite.

I think they would also have to nerf the snow water recipe as well. Would it be possible to have it disappear from your inventory if you leave the snow biome? I can see melting snow for water while in the snow biome but carrying snow around indefinitely, storing it in a crate, and then melting it into water at your leisure is too unbalanced. I won't mention realism since inventory mechanics are pretty fantasy anyway but from a water survival standpoint as you mentioned it would be better if snow could not be removed from the snow biome. At the very least, increasing the amount of snow needed for one jar of murky water would be an abstract way of representing that the amount you gathered would melt before you could get it into a pot.

Nice guess but wrong.  T'is not the new system that stifles me but the new sprog.  Check my post count, it went downhill swiftly after November 2020.

Do what you like with your own forum, I'm just pointing out that what was once a vibrant communty now feels like a sterile Q&A session.

It would be interesting to see web activity...but this is what I see

The official A20 dev discussion is now at 20 pages after it was created at the end of October and this thread is at 41 pages.  Seems a healthy amount of chatter is going on.  Add in the fact that the devs are currently working on A20 which I rather that be their focus than filling up a post count but we are getting feedback, especially from fataal.  Throw in the many dev streams they have held which has been a lot of information shared with us (more than they could honestly put in posts).

For me I have posted a lot more since then. 😉  But if I have a choice between spending time playing the game or posting about the game....the choice is easy

The only game I've got time to play at the moment is coinbase, turns out my score keeps going up so there's that...

The problem is that every day or so the discussion is cut short which stifles the development of the conversation unless everyone is pottering back and forth between the dev diary and the dev discussions.  What happens if a discussion goes around to relevant again?  Does it get shifted back to the dev diary?  Is the development of the community during this release cycle not worthy of proper discussion?

There are companies who would pay a lot of money to develop a community which the TFP are casually discarding.

*Scoffs* From what I've seen so far, for the most part, this is a pretty @%$#ty community. Try again. *Pulls back slot machine lever*
