Can't join MP game

Been playing for some time now with 2 friends, never had an issue. Tonight each time I tried to join, while the server is "creating character" the console would open and in red letters I got the message NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Game was restarted, I verified files using steam (no message that anything was wrong) nothing worked. The second player was able to join with no issues.

Can anyone tell me what is going on? This was quite frustrating.

 
Rather confident this is a mod issue. Looked up the net package direction error and all of the results were from people with wrong version of/outdated mods. Get the mods updated, and try again. This may be a case of needing to delete affected characters, which requires deleting everything attached to the steam id.

Yep. It could also just be that you are required to have some of those mods installed to join the game, but have loaded them incorrectly.
