After watching all 3 dev streams so far to me this is the "Immersion" update.  The changes in lighting, HD textures and addition of more deco blocks make for a more immersive experience that rival many AA/AAA titles.

Sprinkled in is also more content, polish and bug fixes.  It also looks like many of the changes yield same or better performance.

I hate to echo MM but this looks to be the best Alpha yet...😂

It's also nice to see the work that is going on for A20+ features.
and the best part is. that it is coming soon!

gives me something to do! :D

Since there has been new animations added for the player characters, will 3rd person be a toggle option on the fly without the need for debug mode?
Also I'd love to drive around in 1st person! :D

Third person was never removed because of "clunckyness", AFAIK it was removed because you can exploit it in PvP.

86% sure they said it was because they looked like crap, 99% sure they said they'd revisit it when the animations got better (which supports the first belief), but we do get a lot of mixed messages so who knows.

Great question, in last nights stream it sounds like they are not happy with all of the animations just yet.  The melee animations are in but not the ranged ones yet.

Swimming zombies look a bit.. underwhelming. I thought they would really swim instead of lunge-stand stil-lunge.
Probably still WIP but looked good enough for me.  Anything more might be too human like.

ATM, level 6 gear is kind of the place holder for "Legendary" items that aren't in the game yet, so they want to make those loot / trader only, but it pretty heavily cripples you because your last mod slot is locked behind your items being level 6, and levels on items basically don't do anything at all if you don't have mods for them

...
Correction: Quality levels on items bring 10% more damage per level on average. Without any mods.

This is pretty much the on going issue with the different opinions on balance for each play style. The two main play styles of the game are crafting builders who  build a base and mine and make most of their gear themselves, vs the ADHD run and gun kids that spend 98.9% of their time looting PoI and don't want to ever have to mine or craft. Of course there's a bit of overlap, but that overlap is just in the form of "I loot PoI to get my loot and build a base" but very few in A18 do crafters that loot, for obvious reasons.

They didn't want to lock all the good gear behind crafting, because the ADHD kids can't mine for materials and would have to spend their precious perk points on crafting skills instead of MOAR DAMAGE. So they added schematics to the game and made it so you can only get level 6 gear via traders or loot. Which kind of craps on crafting play styles  because any points put into crafting perks are wasted as you can just find a schematic instead to do the same thing. None of the crafting perks "Side bonus" are worth a perk point on their own, like 20% faster forge speed etc is just not a good perk because you can build a second forge and get double forge speed instead

Currently in A18 crafting builds are a dead meme, even as someone who has played a crafting builder focused character since like A14, there's essentially no way to craft gear in A18 faster than you could just find it. By the time you've invested all the bajillion perks needed to make a crucible and learn to make high tier steel armor etc, you would absolutely have had it 400 times faster by just playing a looter character.

A19 overhauls the skills to some degree and consolidates stuff, but we don't know any real details yet as they haven't showed the new skill trees. It seems like the focus was mainly on consolidating bad perks to make them more tempting and lowering the total amount of perks needed to max out perks that were basically only worth it at max rank like the Jump perk.

A19 will also help with the loot age changes so you aren't decked out in full steel armor with a full set of steel tools by day 9, which might give a crafting character some tiny chance of keeping up

I'm hopeful on the crafting perks being overhauled to at least be worth picking if you already have the schematic  / aren't auto "Respec" tier where you have to drink a respec potion to get your perk points back after you find a schematic, like with all of the vehicle perks.  If the perks were actually decent on their own it would help to close the gap between the two play styles where one isn't basically punished for looting until you get the schematics instead.
Seriously you think it would be fun to sit on your @%$*#! in a rock cave and craft the best gear the game has to offer? "Heavily cripples"? At most you will get a tad more damage and one more odd effect. I don't even bother with mods unless I find them most gear is fine without mods. The only must have mods are helmet lights, the bushings that reduce stamina/movement penalty from heavy armor and pockets IMO. The rest are fine if I find them but I don't really go out of my way to get them or feel like the weapon is crippled without it.

Crafting is way more relevant in A19 since the loot you find is way crappier than what you can craft at the moment if you perk into stuff.

I'm unsure of the reasoning, but chickens NEVER spawn in the forest, a biome you would definitely find chickens running around, especially with all those birds nests.

Edit: Also, I think it'll be cool if chickens gave an egg, or at least a high chance of one, when harvested with a bladed weapon/tool
To provide players with needs. If the forest had every resource in existence, why go anywhere else?

Oh, I forgot... one of the BEST features coming in A19 are Knuckle Rubs! 😁
Spiked Knuckle rubs for some! :D

No, not until it feels generally playable. Probably never on 1st person driving.

Wrong. It was removed for because it looked clunky/glitchy. Fortnite is 3p PvP, works fine. Do you have an advantage against someone in fp? In some use cases sure, but if everyone can use it, its not an advantage. FP is better for a lot of things too.

I am hoping long term that we end up with a "domestication" patch for keeping "some" critters as food producers at our bases.  Nothing too high maintenance like ARK *EYE-TWITCH/SHUDDER*.   But a minor weekly feed and sweep to get eggs/feathers from chickens in cages/barns in our bases (maybe meat if left along long enough), Things like that.  Like I said I hope we have that some day in some future patch, but I swear I read from some developer here long ago that it was never going to happen.  But keeping livestock is part of any long term survival plan.

you didn´t tell us that when you talked about candy you where speaking about eye-candy... wow can´t wait to suck in all the new pretty stuff... so awesome ^^

Kinda yeah, lol. Turn on an Audiobook and mine away, I still think the "Minecraft for adults" aspect of this game is one of it's most unique traits. You get the Sense of Pride and Accomplishment™ too for your hand crafted gear you made yourself, and made all the mods for etc

At most you will get a tad more damage and one more odd effect. I don't even bother with mods unless I find them most gear is fine without mods. The issue is more for tools than guns. A tier 6 Auger is a HUGE step above a Tier 5 one. You can add a Stone breaker, iron breaker, dirt breaker, large gas tank, diamond blade etc which are pretty huge quality of life increases. The more mods your tools have, the faster you can mine, so your tools being gated behind looting actually *is* pretty crippling because it adds several seconds longer per block break depending on the tool and block etc. It can add up pretty fast when doing a big project. Especially on stuff like the Steel Pick where a mod might push you over the breakpoint so you have to swing your pick one less time per block, that's a drastic improvement because of the high stamina drain + long animation to swing

For armor mods, it's mainly just me trying to cram as many pockets and liner mods, and same with guns, it's not as big of a deal besides with Junk Turrets. It makes a pretty big deal on Junk Turrets too because the missing damage will mean you end up spending like 10-20% + more ammo per big fight or horde night because of the  "kill break points". With most of the other weapons the break point won't matter that much as it probably won't save you a bullet, but with junk turrets it actually can save you several bullets per zed
