Zombies not/in very little quantity spawning?

Hello guys.

I'm playing regularly with two friends of mine in Co-Op, V1.1(b14) on PC. Completely clean Vanilla 7, no mods or anything.

I'm the host and after some time, next to no zombies are spawning. It is like the game forgets, that it is supposed to spawn zombies and after some unspecified amount of time, it starts spawning in a few zombies and then it stops again for a time.

I'm at a loss what could cause this behaviour?

Zombie Spawning is definitely turned on in the game settings, no sense to play a Zombie Survival Game without Zombies.

PS: I highly doubt it would be specs of my PC:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D RAM: 32 GB CL 30 6000 MHz DDR5 RAM (yes, EXPO is on, so full speed). GPU: RTX 4070 Ti Super Hard Drive: Runs on an M2 NVME SSD.

These are probably the most relevant specs for hosting this game, my PC is new (built in August) and should blow out this game very easily out of the water, so I highly doubt it is in any way limited. Also no abnormalities hardware wise are observable. I'm pretty convinced it is either a bug or a hidden setting or something.

PPS: Venturing to a biome border, in this case with the Wasteland, triggered about 4-5 zombies to spawn like one would be used to, but going back into the Pine Forest seemingly entirely stops spawning for a while and then you maybe get an occassional single zombie again.

There are definitely way less zombies walking around than in earlier alphas and when compared to early game in a fresh new world.

You mean biome (wilderness) spawns? If so, no worries we've done a lot of work on that and it should hit a patch soon(ish).

Yes, I'm talking about the spawns in the wilderness, not PoI's, not Wandering Hordes, not Screamers and Screamer Hordes, these seem to work as intended.

So do I get you right, this is a known bug then?

There was a recent topic about this.  It's been a problem for a few years, at least since A19. Maybe different bugs, but not fixed. Hopefully now it is. It gets boring after a while with dead worlds.

Yeah there are a lot of edge cases where, in a general summaried-laymans terms, a lot of counters and things that track biome spawns get a little broken and it can compound to where you miss a lot of spawns.

It's actually been fixed recently (internally, non-public) and has been under tested for a while, IMO it's fixed. Fixes should be included in the next big patch.

For now, you can try minimizing this by killing all zombies that you run across in the wild before leaving in a small chunk area (it's about 40m square, so not big). That's one of the issues, when only a partial pack of wilderness zombies get killed and the others despawn due to all players leaving the area, then they are recalled when the area is activated again, etc. Normally a pack is 4 or so zombies in the forest, so keep a look out. Obviously this is harder in biomes like snow and wastelands

Yeah we settle in the Pine Forest and when we approached the Wasteland, as written, which we avoided but had to do for a buried supplies quest at the biome border, they started spawning in normally there at the border, some in the pine forest, some (a dog and a vulture) on the other side in the wasteland.

As soon as we went back to the trader afterwards... nada, no zombies around, I checked it with the listents console command.

Good to know, that it will be fixed with the next patch, looking forward to it, thanks for the heads up!

It was supposed to be fixed with the latest update, but it's still happening with my old save. The zombies did return, but after killing or letting them despawn all over again, they never came back. Is it still happening on your end?
