Zombies are acting a little strange

I've seen it mentioned here and there, but no threads to the best of my knowledge.

Zombies are often beating on the ground, columns, lamp posts, etc. while I stand a few feet away watching in consternation at why they're doing that. I have to walk up and shiv them in the head to get their attention at times.

Something has changed (or been changed) in zombie behavior I can't put my finger on. Didn't notice it happening in 2.0, but definitely happening in 2.1.

Anyone know if this has this been brought to TFP's attention?

I noticed they sometimes do it if they fall or hear something and smack things as they investigate. I can't seem to get away with as much night looting unscathed as I used to. Not sure if it's just me or perhaps I've gotten rusty looting properly.

It's a normal part of their behavior for them to have a small percentage chance at doing dumb zombie stuff instead of attacking you. Maybe someone at TFP accidentally bumped that number when they were boosting the yellow loot bag drop rate way too high. ;)

It's happening a lot, so you may be onto something there. They haven't fallen from anything. They're not in rage mode. They'll even walk right past me to do it sometimes.

Yeah, I think something got messed up with that in this version. It definitely happens when it shouldn't. I begin to wonder if they are thinking the trees and buildings are dead animals. 😁

I've seen it mentioned that zombie behavior has been changed so they'll pose a bit more of a threat to your base on horde night. No idea if that's true and would think something like that would be constrained to horde night code, but I'd like to try and narrow it down so TFP will know where to look. It's happening all the time.

That might just have been the combination of crawling and infernals making it much more likely that they could get into your base. But I'm not sure. I don't remember anything specific about changes for horde night.

I agree I've seen this kind of behavior more often than I would expect. I'm standing in plain view of a zombie on the same level with nothing in between us and they walk over and start beating on a nearby tree. Just one example.

I noticed back in v1.4, that sometimes the zombies would run away from me, in order to go and attack some inanimate object. This is something that has been going on for awhile now. Is this the same thing that you folks are seeing?

I have had zombies, during Horde Night, actually running past me/ignoring me, all to go and attack something else. These are not zombies that have taken any damage (I didn't start placing spike traps until after v2.0 went stable), and I didn't have a chance to hit them yet, just saw them go running by...

I remember them saying that they have 2 different modes a rage mode and another mode that I can't remember for the life of me. And it's that 2nd mode that is triggering, especially when you attack them in sneak mode with a bow or a silenced weapon, they start beating whatever object is closest to them.

Destruction mode, but that should not happen the way it's happening currently.

I've seen it across versions, not sure if i've noticed it more than older versions; but regardless, i don't have a problem with it, zeds doing "dumb" stuff like that is ok with me, after all their brains are supposed to be full of mush ; at the very least its amusing that they can be random sometimes

That's expected. They don't "know" where you are. I'd think they'd want to do something about it when zombies are just stroling right by you when you haven't interacted with them at all, though. You could stand there and watch them topple a light pole before they noticed you and that' just looks bad.

I've seen them do it when something is in their way and that's what I think you guys are talking about. I've never seen them just take a stroll and go beating on something until recently.
