PC Zombie aggro question

Why do zombies only come to you from eight directions when they aggro?

I always start staring my compass to get them come towards me straight line.

PS. This is one of the best games i've played ❤️

Sadly one of few things I don't like about the AI in this game. They navigate the world by pathing from one block to another as opposed to the player whose path is not restricted to blocks. This is what causes that "zig-zag" motion when they are pathing. As you mentioned, many players try to alter their position so that zombies approach them in a cardinal direction (N,S,E,W and everything in between).

I've always hoped for an update to the AI pathing so that it appear more natural, but I'm not sure what is involved with that. I assume it's a pretty hefty lift and likely won't happen.
