When i die ill go back to where i died and cannot find my bag. I could stand ontop of the bag marker on the compass and it wont be there. Ill even run around and check everywhere in the vicinity while breaking any grass in my way(visibility). This has happened to me a few times and ive lost a ridiculous amount of stuff.

It almost always rolls down the hill where you died. Run straight down from the deepest incline and you'll usually find the bag. Hope you find it still

Mutilator is correct, the bag can be effected by gravity, but if you find our are standing directly on top of the marker it is possible your bag slipped through the ground. In some cases, especially in high elevations, the bag can fall through a few blocks.
Next time this occurs please try digging for your bag. If you still have a marker on the compass you can try it with that bag too.
