Windows Long Press e Acts Like Short Press e

I've been playing for awhile and haven't had this issue. A while back I had to uninstall, then I reinstalled when I was able to play again. That's when I noticed long pressing e does not open the radial menu. This happens in both solo and online games. No mods are being used.

Long pressing e in Conan Exiles works fine.

Here are some things I've tried.

  • Started a new local game.
  • Validated the files through Steam. Started another new game. Problem still exists.
  • Sticky Keys being on or off has no effect.
  • The issue exists in both 1.1 and 1.4(b8). I haven't tried other releases.
  • I have deleted and reinstalled the game with no effect.
  • I have wiped my entire system, reinstalled the OS, Steam, my video drivers, and installed 7D2D. It still happens.
  • I've added my Steam library to Microsoft Defender's exclusion list.

I'm not sure how to proceed. Unfortunately, the game is unplayable in this state, and it's my favorite game. If anyone has any insights, I'd really appreciate them.

Which radial menu are you trying to open?  For example, opening the radial menu for building blocks or changing ammo type is done by holding R by default.  I don't have the game open to see if there is another radial menu connected to E.  I only ever use the radial menu from building stuff and I know F works for the radial menu for lights.

I'm trying to move a campfire, enter a vehicle, pick a lock. Long pressing r works fine for construction.

As an update, I've done the following.

  • Downgraded my video driver to 24.9.1, released in September 2024, and limited my FPS to 60. The problem still happens.
  • Upgraded my video driver to 24.10.1, released October 11, 2024, and limited my FPS to 60. I also downgraded the game to 1.1(b14). I believe this was the setup I was running the last time I played when everything worked. The problem still happens.

My mistake. Entering a vehicle only requires a short press of e.

Ah... I forgot about E for stuff like moving things or opening inventory in vehicles.  Been a while since I've really played all that much.  Hopefully someone has some ideas for why that might not work properly for you.  I see you aren't using mods, so that isn't where the problem is.  Note that you can pick locks and enter a vehicle without using the radial menu.  But that doesn't help with opening vehicle inventory or moving workstations or certain other interactions.

My initial thoughts are either 3rd-party software for input devices, or something like a wireless/bluetooth keyboard.  I know I have run into that issue a lot with testing on the latter. They are very bad for gaming on.

I'm unable to check the logs posted currently as I am at work.

 
Odd that long E doesn't work but long R does -- what happens if you re-bind the interact key to a different key, like T instead of E? If you have a different keyboard to try long E with that might help narrow things down as well

I am using a wired keyboard and mouse. I'm running GHub and iCue. I've tested with and without those two and the result is the same.

I have re-bound the key and it still acts as a short press. I've tried different keyboards with the same results. I should have mentioned this in my original post. Sorry about that.

 
So, it turns out it's been longer than I thought, and I've forgotten more than I realized. The long press works. I'm just stupid. I was placed a campfire on the road and was trying to pick it up. With no land claim block, that's not happening. I tried a bicycle, and it worked fine.
