Windows 11 + Xbox pass

Hi,

My friend can't start 7 days to die while using an Xbox Game Pass. It uses a brand new Windows 11 PC, high-end specs, nothing to get in the way .... The problem is 7 days to the launcher, the error is "invalid filename", it looks like launcher configuration files are missing and %appdata% cannot be accessed (missing permissions). The game itself works via 7DaysToDie.exe and shows the main manu, but bypassing the launcher, it shows xbox connection error. It was reinstalled once, same problem.

Maybe someone knows what arguments should be passed to 7DaysToDie.exe to connect to xbox, disable EAC, render D11? or how to fix it and the problems themselves?

Thank you!

I think the problem is likely more along the lines of Microsoft being Microsoft and not being capable of doing things correctly. Windows 11 still being complete trash and Xbox Game Pass also being made by Microsoft and still kind of new and probably trashy (I haven't actually bothered to use it cuz why would I).

The alternative is just the devs here missed something or your friend's install is screwed up.

Click check for updates twice from windows updates make sure you've got everything.

If not, close the microsoft store and xbox app completely

Go to services.msc  (search for services), find the Gaming Services and disable them, then restart them

Reopen the xbox app and try again, you may need to Check for Updates to try to fix files, or maybe reinstall.

I decided to search for stuff before submitting this, I found this that may help as well.

I upgraded to Win 11 over the weekend and my gamepass version worked fine after I clicked Ok on a popup to give the gaming services permissions on the xbox app, for what it's worth.
