PC Why can't auto turrets use steel case ammo

So we built four auto turrets last night only to find out that they don't accept anything but brass 9mm?

Two questions: is this intentional, or some kind of half assed "oops I forgot to fix the xml"?

How can I edit the xml to fix this?

This question can only be answered by the developers but I suppose it is intentional. A turret doesn't wear out and the only disadvantage of steel ammunition is that it doesn't exist anymore.

There's a modlet that allows you to load the steel ammo.

Doesn't it also do less damage?

I'm actually not sure how the damage displayed on the weapon and on the ammo interact. Do they just add together?
