Why am I getting a spawn limit of 30 zombies at a time for bloodmoons?

It was changed by TFP.  Only 30 max zombies regardless of settings.  Now, if you set it higher in options, you'll just get harder zombies to make up for having fewer zombies.  It's supposed to help with performance, though I don't know why they didn't just make it another option... or at least reword the option for the number of zombies so it was clear.  After all, many people have no problem with performance with more than 30 zombies.

Supposedly the difficulty remains about the same by having harder zombies versus more zombies, but it doesn't feel the same.

On most high-end hardware, having maxAlive greater than 128 will cause issues.

BloodMoonEnemyCount of 256 will never be honored. Even before the current limitations, this was always hard-capped at 64.

MaxSpawnedZombies is basically the same as maxAlive. Before 1.0 setting this higher than 90 would mess up the zed AI, and would cause bloodmoons to look like a classic slide show. With 1.0 you can set it higher, but the cap is around 128. For most hardware the cap of 90 still exists.

 
I was playing undead legacy on A20 on dedicated server before I switched.  Last bloodmoon spawned 158 with no lag and 3 of us on.

It would be nice if they let us override it somehow if we got a server that can handle.

UL has mechanics that lower the AI complexity so that more zeds can spawn in. So does Darkness Falls.  Khaine has a standalone mod for this as well that is popular.

 
Ahh, that would make sense.

I realize its just my opinion but honestly that's what adds to the 'panic/horror' factor of the game.  That's the only time I die any more once I reach the higher levels.  Its not the challenge of the zombies, although a good boss mob would be nice, its the sheer number.  Im standing there shooting a couple zombies and I turn around and there's 50 standing behind me or the top of a ledge, shooting down and I accidentally step over the edge and fall in.  KYAGB :D.

 
Actually that might be a good idea, reduce the AI complexity for the majority of the spawns and have a couple slightly smarter ones.

 
There are plenty of people already complaining about zombie AI.  Mostly that it is predictable or not advanced enough. I don't think reducing it will be popular.  Besides, there is already some variation. 

Still, I agree that reducing the number of zombies for everyone without it being optional want a good idea.  I understand some people, including consoles, may not be able to handle as many at once.  But most of us had no problem.  And although they say the overall difficulty is the same because the zombies are stronger, it isn't the same thing as being swarmed with more zombies even if they are weaker.
