PC When did AI happen?

Everything I have ever been interested in computing is AI based now. When did this happen? I mean I have seen the VR thing coming and going but not AI. Maybe I was living under a rock, but even then I would have notice the shift in computing to using AI based programming.

Who was It that promoted it first: Nvidia, IBM, HP, VMware, Oracle, SUN, I do not know.

So this isn't a game-related question? There are different forms of AI. Some types for you to look into:

• "Machine Learning" isn't very new. That's where a computer is taught to recognize an image or a pattern.
  
• "Predictive Text" has been around for several years on people's phones. When you're composing a text message you might see a few word suggestions. That's an early version of the next one...
  
• "Generative AI", which can generate essays, answers, functions/programs, images, videos, and more.
  

I recall encountering machine learning in the 1990s. Predictive Text I'll guess was exposed to the public around 2018 by cell phone manufacturers. Generative AI was first exposed to the public I want to say roughly two years ago by ChatGPT, and shortly after that also by Google and a number of others.

it was there all the time, we just oped tp ignore its presence. And now with the hype it got it is close to impossible to omit it.

Yeah, not a gaming question. I just noticed so much computing is dominated by AI. Its great and all and I like the idea of it, until the AI gets as far as skynet.

Anyway I like the idea of it but it just seems that I am the last one to know anything.

The perfect word: Hype. That hype I was not paying attention to I guess. I have seen VR as far back to the lawnmower Man. Ive seen the progression on some steam games and its still not all that of course, but it is growing into something really cool. Maybe someday it could tap directly into you brain, that's fairly far away but I see it coming anyway, unlike AI.
