Hardly any animals spawn, and I have to increase the zed spawn rate just so it doesn't feel like a ghost town in most places? Can devs possibly look into animal spawning for 2.0 patch? Thanks.

I don't have such a problem. There are few deer, and the rest are like dirt.
Hmmm what version are you on, because animal spawning has been broken for me since 1.0 dropped. I run a dedicated server and have the spawning upto 70 but I haven't adjusted the spawn rate, just yet. So far nothing helps aside from actually modifying the game with an xml modlet. Also please vote in my silly poll.

On PS5 with fairly standard settings close to the 20th hordenight I don't see much difference in spawns. Every biome has a decent ammount of animals, it's not like a crowded zoo but I would be shocked if it was after an apocalypse where the undead rule the world.

Are you only hunting during the day?  That would decrease the number of animals you run into.

We usually have several stacks of meat by the first horde night. Finding animals isn't an issue if you hunt at night, and are aware of where you have already cleared.

As for lack of zombies, it's a caveat so the game is still playable of TFP's confusing minimum specs. Though due to the CPU overhead required for managing AI on a lot of zeds, there are limits to how high you can set it even with good hardware.  Thankfully mods exist to counteract this. I usually start out with Improved Hordes, and Kahines better cities.

Are you playing single player or multiplayer? Do you hunt at night?

I actually reduce meat count to 3, because I travel a lot on foot, and if I hunt going to and veer around

128 meters to new chunks on my way back I have a lot more meat and feathers than I need. Plus my

biomes are thinner, so I cross over constantly.

I use animal tracker and I am aware that there are way more animals around me than I can spot. The radius of animals appearing on your compass is pretty small, but if you check your map you can see animals a lot further away. Honestly, you're just not seeing them. At night, snakes and deer are common enough. Once you find the snow biome, however, you just go absolutely nuts: Wolves, lions, bears, chickens, rabbits... all of them clear to see.

The first level of the animal tracker perk is well worth having - the bigger animals you don't need this perk to spot, but this'll clue you into snakes, rabbits, and chickens. Just stop moving, absolutely still, and crouch down for a moment. If the green paws icon turns up, check your map for the animals in your vacinity; move closer and they'll appear on your compas and as a green icon in amongst the grass.

Grilled meat is generally the most abundant food source in the game.

My issue is lack of hostile life in the forest aside from zombies. Add some wolves and coyotes and small bears then we got some forest danger

Yeah, animals are all around.  They just aren't easy to spot for a lot of people.  Using Animal Tracker can help if you are having trouble seeing them, though I don't ever use it and always find plenty of meat.  I don't think we need more chickens or rabbits, though I'd be interested in seeing things like birds or squirrels that cannot be killed that are there just to give a more lively environment.

I don't hunt really, I noticed that deer and rabbits only spawn at night according to xml files. Improved zombie spawning is one of the mods we have, might just mod the spawning.xml myself at this rate. I want both haha.

I help run a dedicated server. Multiplayer, I hunt whenever.

All in all some fine suggestions, but I think I'll just make a mod that caters to my taste in both zombies and animals.
