I was considering making my own topic on this when it first happened, but as I don't post much anymore (but still lurk a lot), I figured, "bah, whatever!". But since you posted on the matter, I might as well join you. 
What I think they did was made all previously viewed posts included in the list. It's stupid and annoying and whoever did it should get slapped across the head for thinking it was a good idea, but, it is what it is.
Instead of making the "New Posts" link better by leaving us with an option to filter out categories of topics or something... instead, they just make it worse by making us pay closer attention and try to find that dinky little information bar which lets us know where the new posts end and where the old posts begin, which for me is typically anywhere from page 1 to page 4 of new posts, but I imagine it's a lot worse for most other less active members.
EDIT: Wow, you're right, they hide the topics you just posted in from the "New Posts" list. I didn't notice that till just now, did that just change today or was that part of the change from a few days ago? Either way... they just keep digging that hole. Eventually, they'll succeed in getting everyone to stop using the link.

Yeah, there have been a few changes to the layout this week that I'm not happy with.
