PC [SOLVED] Promo art for V3.1 Henpocalypse update

Dear The Fun Pimps, please stop shoveling your AI art into this game and the steam update icons. We can all see it. It doesn't hold up to scrutiny. You look cheap and stupid.

I can see why somebody might conclude "cheap and stupid." I'm not going to find a place on my wall to hang it. However, I'm not so sure it is AI generated. I can only shrug and say "maybe?" I know nothing about art and style, so my inability to spot or recognize something for what it is doesn't prove or disprove anything.

The chicken to me is comical and I'm a bit lost on what is a leg and what is an arm, so I can see the "awful proportions" criticism.

The blood splatter doesn't seem out of the ordinary and the hit the zombie received I think explains the warped face perspective. Who draws blood like that? Several people? It doesn't seem unfamiliar. And, if it were AI, then it would have learned it from somebody, right?

The clouded eye seems to me like an intentional mismatch.

I don't get what "nonsense" refers to. Other than a chicken on a roof, which isn't as nonsensical as an anthropomorphic chicken wearing boots on one leg and one... arm? Or is it two legs both on one side of the body? That to me this is the weirdest element.

As for "tree just appears" I mean, is that a tree? Even if so, it seems just to be a foggy distorted background.

For what it's worth (nothing) ... and for my own amusement ... ChatGPT says "not AI", Claude says "maybe", Grok says "yes AI", Perplexity says "likely", and Gemini detected no embedded AI signals or watermarks but otherwise couldn't say.

However, I'm not so sure it is AI generated.
Yeh, didn't convince me, either. The blood does look weird, it's like an animation for Blood Mage casting a spell, blood-formed-rune mid air. But I guess it's the path of the bloodied zombie mouth, the kick has spun his head around, leaving a trail .. or something like that.

The orange bits are legs (feet and shins), his left leg has landed the kick, the other is bent in front; some type of a forward jumping kick - however the shoulders are backwards for most of those I've seen, left should be forward with the kicking leg. (left = right on the image)

No idea why the feet are made cyborg.. :P

I was thinking they were leather boots or wraps.
That would make sense, ofc, but they're also chicken-textured, orange and raise the question if those claws are chicken or boot... not the cleanest of designs for footwear, but we'd have to ask the artist for the intent :P

They found all possible answers to the question.

Seems if you want an answer that suits your agenda, just shop around among the AIs until you find the "right" one, you don't even need to try loaded questions. ;)

Nobody asked for artwork for minor updates. If art is so unimportant you can't be bothered and just use AI, the art shouldn't have been made in the first place.
Steam kinda does, I assume this is the main reason it exists:1784811085945.png

I assume consoles do something similar. And yeah, it isn't important, it's there for a day to attract attention and then it's gone. It's less important than a youtube thumbnail... just something to fill the gap.

Drama about a throwaway promotional picture being AI? Shows your age.
The current generation of kids have already accepted AI. Companies have accepted AI. There is no going back. That is another train that already left the station
might want to start a different thread if you want to have the AI Conversation...AI is not inevitable...the average person does not have to accept slop and en■■■■tification. It is an uphill fight, but, that does not make it one not worth fighting.

I love it if they save money on AI art to hire more coding nerds and get updates out sooner. AI is a useful tool. Unlike content creators who earn money off others creative work and are unuseful tools.

At the end of the day my job is just as unuseful as any office job because all either of us do is generate income for another company and take a cut. Difference is, I get a 55% cut of the value I create for that company and very few employee of any other company does.

So unless you're like a farmer or a nurse or something, the roast here is? That I get less exploited than the vast majority of people?

except THAT is not how reality works...Companies that adopt AI are doing so to rid themselves of the burden of paying a human. It isn't to improve service, it isn't to reallocate resources, it's to increase profits for the few at the expense of the many.

You talk about content creators as if they are a scourge on humanity...7 DTD would have arguably died if not for Content Creators. That's not to say that modders didn't do a lot to help in that regard too.

I'm with ZZTong on this. I don't see anything that suggests this is AI. Assuming everything is AI doesn't make everything AI.

First, the chicken...

That is a chicken that has the left left kicking outward with a twist of the hips, leaving the right leg bent underneath. You can see the left arm. The other arm isn't shown beyond the shoulder and perhaps a bit in shadow. Proportions are fine. They fit the perspective of a leg coming at you in a cartoon-style image. So the chicken looks fine and not at all AI.

Next, the zombie....

Not sure why you are upset about the pupils here. To me, it looks like one blind eye. Looks fine and not at all AI. The mouth looks like the zombie was just hit and is in the middle of an action scene of the face swinging to the side/around with the jaw pushed towards the side from the kick. A second or two later and the face would be back to normal as the action continued. It is completely normal to have mid-action images in animation that show an action that isn't fully complete yet to indicate that action happened. Again, this isn't AI.

Blood...

The blood indicates motion... the motion of the zombie head swinging around from being kicked. It shows the rotation of the head and the blood spraying outward as the head whips around. Completely expected and normal for such a scene. Not AI.

Tree...

What's wrong with it? Just because there's a gap below it? That tree could be on a hill or mountain and higher up, so a gap makes sense. Or, it could just be background and it's not at all uncommon to draw background in rough strokes that leave gaps and stuff like that simply because it's background. Nothing at all unusual about that. People draw trees without the bottom part of the trunk quite often. And even if this was an AI image, that wouldn't be a reason to think it was.

"Nonsense"....

You'll need to be more clear. What's nonsense about those two areas? I see powerlines and a power pole. I see darkness on a mountain. And even if you think those parts look like "nonsense," what makes you think those look like AI? AI errors are pretty consistent. And those don't suggest AI at all to me.

Conclusion:
I see nothing that suggests this is an AI image. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but nothing you show looks at all wrong to me. It looks like a normal art style and something I've seen many times over decades (long before AI was a thing).

And the Fun Pimps come to the artist’s defense with an WIP reel which indicates the piece is not AI

You could use that argument about any cost-saving measure in a company. Of course it can lead to higher profits. And of course it can lead to freed up resources being spent elsewhere. Like, I use AI for many tasks which relieves me of some chores and gives me more time to do other tasks better.

Content creators aren't required for games to be sold. Games were made and sold years before some guys realized there was a market of people wanting to watch them play games. People don’t play 7DTD because they saw some guys play it, they play it because they enjoy it. I am not denying that content creators help spread the good word, but they too play it because it is good. And in a world without such Youtubers (which makes the multiverse enticing), there would be other channels to market the game and it would still be popular. Because it is actually a great game.

Well then good. I'm glad it's not.
