Urban Decay - Environmental Mod for 7 Days 2 Die

After a long time fiddling with it, I've finally released my "Urban Decay" environmental mod.

Urban Decay

This mod can be utilized alongside other mods - to include Overhaul mods.
For Multiplayerit must also be installed on both server and client side.

NOTES:

Pretty much all items (road grunge, graffiti, ivy, etc.) can be removed by placing a frame at their point-of-origin so you can "clean up" an area if you do so desire (they have the same property as the road stripes).

Many items found on the roads can be picked up for resources.

Street lights and electrical boxes (meters, fuse boxes, etc.) have a small chance of giving the player a bit of a shock when harvesting.

During your travels, you may encounter rats and bats....  ;)

I would strongly recommend testing the mod prior to dedicating yourself to a game.  This may not work well if you have an older/slower computer system.

You should also turn off Occlusion in your video settings (from the main menu).  This somehow fixes a bug where some assets/blocks turn invisible on occasion.   Not sure how this works - but it does...

I highly recommend running this mod along side my updated "Better Biomes" mod - The overall immersion is quite satisfying and adds a lot more realism to your games:   Better Biomes

@Roland - I messed up and put this under the wrong category - Is it possible for you to move this over to the "Mods" section please?

Thanks!

I just installed this mod, and the Better Biomes mod, and played for an hour or two just to see what they're about.

I have to say, I'm very impressed. The changes may be "cosmetic," but they add an incredible amount of immersion to the game. It's amazing how something as simple as power lines makes it feel like you're in a real, lived-in world.

I do have a couple minor criticisms, but I expect they're probably not technically feasible. The first is that graffiti doesn't show up on the sides of POIs, only on tiles. The second is that green foliage (mainly the ivy) shows up in biomes where they probably shouldn't, like the snow biome.

But those are minor quibbles. Overall this is really great.

Thanks all!

Thanks!

With the ivy and graffiti, I basically made a copy of the vanilla tiles and hand-placed various ivy and graffiti helper blocks on relevant surfaces.  To have them show up on POI's would require the same sort of procedure, making duplicates and modifying each one by hand.  I do plan on doing some of the remnants and/or some of the Tier-0 prefabs, but that's going to take a bit of time and will likely not be out until 2.0 comes out and I've updated this to be compatible (if it'll need any tweaking at all).

I did notice that green ivy in the winter biome as well - I must have used the regular green ivy blocks instead of my helper blocks.   Derp!  ;) I t's on the list for fixes.

One thing that many folks have encountered is the intermittent flickering of some blocks into and out of visibility.  Turing off Occlusion in the video settings (from the Main Menu - not the in-game menu) will fix this.  Not sure why this happens - I remember even seeing this happen with some vanilla blocks back in A19/A20.  But turning off Occlusion appears to fix this.

I did notice that, but only with blocks from the Better Biomes mod, so I didn't mention it. I also noticed that you have to point to a certain spot on them before you can harvest them, or the "Press E..." prompt appears (depending on whether the block can be picked up or not).

I wonder if they're related? Meaning, the collider could be too small, and that's what the occlusion might use to decide whether they're in sight or not.

Also, it might be the bounds on the skinned mesh renderers, I've run into that before.

But, these are just suggestions, I'm by no means a Unity expert.

I can verify that turning off occlusion does fix the issue.

I don't think I can ever play the game again without these mods, the difference is astounding. Immersion to the MAX. Brilliant work man, These mods and the NYC map are just perfection, it really feels like an overgrown dystopian wasteland.
