Unable to crossplay w/ PS5

Hi,

I recently downloaded 7DtD on my Xbox Series S and have the V 1.3(b9) installed. I have been unable to join my friend on his PS5-hosted world, however he has been able to join me when I host. We would like to play with more people, so hosting on my Series S isn't gonna cut it.

We have tried every method readily available online to troubleshoot this issue. I've searched for his exact PS name in the "server name" box after he creates the world (with online, "Public" server visibility, same region, and crossplay all on) but nothing has shown up in the Peer-to-Peer list. I've checked that my "Crossplay in Multiplayer" is on, tried with "Network Workaround" on and off, and checked that all my Xbox settings were correct (multiplayer, crossplay, and system clock all enabled/accurate).

We've tried to track down a solution on Reddit and in this forum as well, but found more questions than answers. Any insight would be appreciated!

Likely port forwarding for the ps5 would help. You could get a log to us actually too, attempt to connect to your friend, then after failing start a save on your end and hit the bug report feature and put something like "Can't connect to PS5 user" in the description. Let me know when you do and I'll take a look at the log in the backend.

You don't need the log of the host as well?

Nah, a failure to connect (or even locate the host) likely would mean the client never reached the host. It can't hurt to have it, but all the information needed would be in the client log (in fact, usually it would provide the same information). It can't hurt to have both though

Perfect, thank you so much for the insight! I'll try to get the logs this weekend when we attempt to play again and send them via bug report.

No problem, I'm pretty sure port forwarding for the ps5 (don't forget to have your friend set a statically-assigned ip address on their router). Can't hurt to power down the whole network for a few minutes also (including the PS5).  Do give me a ping or reply when you do, during the weekend I'm never sure what's going on, but if I can hop on and take a look when yall submit the bug reports I will.

Ok, I tried to join my friend's PS5 server and we both submitted bug reports for the issue after failing. We both began the reports with "Can't connect to PS5 server!". I also mentioned you by name Jugginator, so maybe that'll help you locate my report.

We didn't attempt port-forwarding yet, but that may be a bit out of our technical abilities. Please let me know if you're able to determine anything from the logs. Thank you so much for all your assistance thus far.

I found your log, but I didn't find your friend's log, I searched for Jugginator and the reports 30 minutes before yours and an hour after and didn't see one.

Looking at your log, the attempt for your friend to connect to you never reached you. Which thankfully narrows it down, although it doesn't point to a clear solution, it is on your friend's side, but there is a chance that it's port forwarding needing to be done which you as the host would need to do. I'd be interested in seeing a log from your friend, have him start an Online session and load into the world, that should be enough, unless you want to try connecting to him, then submit a bug report.

EOS has been having issues in certain regions, that may be it. Something is preventing him from making a connection to your house... or your router is refusing to send his connection to your console (or is routing it to your TV or something silly :)

I plan on writing up a little guide for port forwarding for consoles, but unfortunately every single router has a different UI, so the exact steps are hard to give out. If you give me the name/make/model number of your router, I'd be happy to look up the UI and give you steps on how to port forward though

Ok, thank you so much for taking a look. My friend on PS5 tried to join me and vise-versa. Also, my other friend on PC tried to join me and my friend on PS5 with no luck. We all submitted bug reports with “Jugginator” typed in the description.

We eventually joined a random server that “SpearchuckerJones” had created. He’s not one of our group, just a random we found.

I could definitely try to work on the router side of the equation, but won’t be able to get far until this weekend.

Thanks again for helping!

Sounds good! Anytime, you're welcome. Yeah that test narrowed it down a bit. Port forwarding is a weird thing (if it is indeed what's causing the issue), well networking in general is also strange, you can try several times and fail and another time it will work, some routers handle routing without port forwarding easier than others, there is a lot at play here. If you want, you can just snap a picture of the sticker with the information on it and send it to me in a DM and I can use that to find your model online.

WE FIXED IT!!!

I eventually found a way around the issue. My strategy was to search for 2 consecutive characters in my friend’s name (in the server name field) instead of my friend’s full name. Even searching for half of my friend’s name didn’t work, it had to be 2 characters for his server to show up in the P2P list.

Here’s the exact example:

Host on PS5’s gamer tag: joeydb19 (would not appear when searched)

Attempted searching “joey”: found other hosts with “joey” in their name but not my friend.

Searched “db” in the server field: HIS SERVER SHOWED UP INSTANTLY!!!

We had the same issues when my friend Drew3279 also tried hosting a server on his PC. I couldn’t find it, and joeydb19 couldn’t either. However, after discovering the “2 character strat” for the PS5 server, I searched “w3” in the server field and Drew3279’s server appeared instantly.

We’ve been having a blast joining and gaming with each other. I have no idea why the search function was so picky about typing exact, full gamertags but the problem has been solved.

Jugginator, thank you so much for your attention and advice throughout this process!
