Train or Train like vehicles

Hey guys,
This my first post in this forum. I've been a player of this game since 2018. Loved it ever since. I would love to see Trains or train like vehicles implemented in the game.
The main purpose of trains would be transportation of important tools like work bench, chemical station, boxes etc to different prepared locations. Giving you the option to take all your belongings with you and go down to the desert or up to the mountains or to the city. This would leed to more playtime in the different flushed out areas of the map, since my journey usually start and ends in the same biom. It also gives the player something to do for the long run as the preparing of the railroad takes time. You could balance it with attracting a lot of zombies by starting or stoping the engine of the train.

On a smaller scale I would like to see automated or self driven lorries for mining and tunnel networks. Only for transporting goods into the mine or out of the mine in style.

Maybe I just love trains ;)

My mates and I having a blast playing your game and it helped us through a lot, during covid and/or bad times. Keep up the amazing work!

I love the idea of making a railway. However, as Cr0wst0rm said, something like this would be hard for a number of reasons, one big reason being that anything player-built is pretty restrictive to the voxel grid.

I've had the thought they could implement a rail system like they do roads or rivers, meaning it's governed and placed in RWG and flows naturally through the world. While it would be a cool way to make the world more believable, making that railway actually functional would be a challenge. They would have to rework the way pathfinding functions in the game because, as it is now, any entity (other than the player and birds) travels along a coordinate-based system as opposed to vector-based. You see evidence of this in the way zombies path to the player in a zig-zag like pattern. They cannot path to you in a straight line unless you are situated in a cardinal direction from them. Similarly, making a train travel across a flowing railway that makes gradual turns and inclines would be really hard to do.

I'd love to have it, though.

Railroads are unlikely to appear in this game for the reasons mentioned even though they would be nice to have.  Adding tracks is easy but making them work isn't.  Or at least, it isn't currently something the game can do with pathing.  Maybe it is something they will consider whenever they make a sequel.
