PC Tired of getting crafting materials from chests

Correction: its a moddable game. And the thing he wants is already available in more than one way via mods.
As you so eloquently put it, he wants it in vanilla. Modding can not fix that, and has nothing to do with it - he'd be posting on the modding forum if it did. But nice try.

That's why i said good luck and happy waiting. This won;t come to vanilla anytime soon. Nice try again.

I think 1 of the developers commented on this topic before saying that it causes network issues.

It's a feature I don't really care about having, but I get why people want it.

I am definitly done with living in chests.
I live in my base, more or less. I would never live in chests. That would be far too uncomfortable. 😁

It´s a time killer, i have played so many different games with crafting i probably spend hundreds of hours just going trough chests. If i get a new game i check if it has this built in or if there is a mod before buying.
Killing time is often the main reason for organizing my storage. That's why I often do it at night and I organize it in a way that allows me quick access to the materials I need on a regular basis.

The next game on my list to play through is Planet Crafter. Half of the game involves organizing your warehouse. At a certain point, you can automate some of the work with drones and autocrafters, but you still need to organize the production since the autocrafters only have a limited range. I guess the game isn't for you, then.

Yeah that´s not for me. I always find something to do, there is no time to kill, not only in this game but generally there is always something more fun for me to do.

I also use the quick stack mod for emptying my inventory with a click. Just have to put in the things manually that aren´t already in my storage.

Inventory organization is simply no fun for me at all. It´s basically work for me. Annoying and tedious.

I don't think it's that hard to implement

What a silly thing to say.

Currently the game doesn't let two players access a single chest at the same time. If one player has a chest open then the other has to wait. This is a super basic feature so you've got to figure that TFP gave it a shot and noped out. It's the sort of thing that opens itself to abuse by players if you don't do it right (could give birth to some wild dupe bugs).

So if we're honest we've got to at least rate the difficulty of implementing that as "not enough gameplay value for the risk it introduces".

But here you are demanding craft from storage. This is like the "two players accessing the same chest" on steroids. So, super unlikely.

And I'm kind of glad, if I'm honest. The only game that does this right, in my opinion, is Space Engineers. SE crafting is much, much more complex, but when you start out you're in the same boat as in 7days: you've got to manually grab what you need. Then you reach the point where you can connect your storage boxes to your crafting station and automate that. Over time, and with a lot of effort, you can end up with a system that takes in raw materials from your mining vehicles, processes them, sorts them, compiles certain numbers of each component, sorts those... and updates a set of large screens detailing how much of each material and component you have in storage. It's perfect.

Heh.  I just started playing that game.  It's a good game if you are interested in just building stuff to build more stuff and watch the planet slowly improve.  The only dangers are running out of food, water, or oxygen, so it's not for everyone.  But I like it.

@Sapient6 The mod that does that  is pretty small, i don´t think it´s a big deal tbh. And 2 players not being able to access one chest has nothing to do with broadcasting chests. With the mod 2 players still can´t access one chest at the same time, but 2 players can craft with broadcasting from the same chest at the same time.

Pure out of interest sine I can't get that mod on PS5: If I undestand it correctly it is 1 (one) specific chest from the mod that allows all workbenches to use its content while at the same time the vanilla chest just be normal storrage? Does it also automaticly unpack the bundles from bulk resources?

@Dead Smarty It works with the vanilla chests, they get a wifi symbol if you access them that you need to activate if you want a chest to broadcast for crafting. And it´s not only for workstation but also for crafting on your person. No unpacking bundles though, but those aren´t too many anyways.

"Nothing" is a little too strong there.

The issue with simultaneous access is that two people can pull the same object from the chest at the same time, duping it. This same issue can easily apply to wifi-crafting, when the players start a craft at the same time. The shared box version is a lot more convenient thou, as you can just keep clicking, while with crafting you'll have to restore the stuff you want to dupe - and ofc you can't dupe things that aren't materials. But infinite steel/concrete (block crafting), infinite food, infinite ammo could be a bit of an issue already, and if two people can craft the same weapon, infinite parts of that type, or q6 stone axes for legendary parts, etc etc.

In contrast to my previosu replied in theis thread re crafting from broadcasting chests i've been playing the awesome Rebirth overhaul mod a lot recently, and instead of storage crates that are in vanilla, my favourite storage method is refrigerators that i (constantly) pickup and collect ; instead of putting signs up above them, i just switch on broadcast for every storage container, it makes putting away the endless loot, very easy; and of course crafting, by default in Rebirth can use broadcasting; so i've got quite used to crafting via broadcast now, but i think only in Rebirth, with vanilla i will most likely stick to non-broadcasting

The acceptable quality threshold for a mod is much lower than it is for the game's built-in code. I use a bunch of mods, and almost none of my favorite mods are up to TFP quality standards. And I mean exactly what I'm saying there. TFP is not a company that has impressed me with its devotion to quality.

If this mod you're using is "pretty small" then it hasn't dealt with the duping problem. That's fine in a mod, but to implement in-game would have to be dealt with.
