PC Tired of getting crafting materials from chests

Hi everyone, have you ever thought about how inconvenient it is to constantly run and go down to your chests to dig into the storage to find the necessary resource for crafting? How about the resources themselves were connected to the workbench, that is, when you go into it, the workbench automatically pulls the necessary materials from the chests nearby, I think this would be very convenient and would save a lot of time

I don't need mods, I don't want to wait for them to update to a new version, I want this feature in the base game, I don't think it's that hard to implement
It's not about whether it's difficult to implement, it's about whether the developers want the feature in the game at all. Inventory management is part of the game and when you are able to craft directly from storage you tend to be pretty sloppy and just throw everything in a chest. I know this from personal experience as I do this with every game that has this feature.

It would certainly be a nice quality of life feature but it doesn't kill me keeping my storage organized and grab materials from the storage when I need them.

Then you have to wait. It´s not a priority and not even sure if it get´s implemented. Ask yourself if you rather spend two minutes putting the mod in the game or if you rather wait for something that might never come.

@RipClaw I am definitly done with living in chests. It´s a time killer, i have played so many different games with crafting i probably spend hundreds of hours just going trough chests. If i get a new game i check if it has this built in or if there is a mod before buying.

It does take time going thru chests to find stuff, even though I'm very organised by manually storing items in named chests. I have tried out a mod that allows the WiFi (whatever it's called) crafting/cooking from chests but (for me) I find it lazy and too simplified ie I like to do that manually else it simplifies things too much.

Same difference with the awesome mod that switches off campfire when cooking finishes. Very useful when I just have limited wood in early game but again, it dumbs things down too much for me. I prefer to go find what I need, put just the right amount of wood in the fire so that it turns off just after any cooking will finish. But even when I have tons of wood I do it manually.

Before we had the 'track'  option for crafting I did the same things, and i have crap short term memory recall but I just scribbled down the ingredients or items on some paper back then now we can track i select that and manually go look thru my boxes. So (for me) there's even less reason to want auto-chest crafting with the track feature.

Part of it is many decades working in I. T.,  I started out when we did everything manually, nowadays things are way, way (way) too dumbed down/simplified/automated for my liking, and I'm somebody who still writes lots of shell scripting code in real life (most of that is done purely to keep my brain busy due to the aforementioned dumbed down etc things that we have with computers now)

But each to their own of course

Let me get this straight.

There are mods that do exactly what you want, that work right now for the current version of the game. You reject those because they might have to be updated at some unknown point in the future. You don't want to wait on that hypothetical update...but yet you are willing to wait for the devs to implement a vanilla feature for which they have shown zero interest, something that is unlikely to happen at all?

You could just use the mod while waiting for TFP to do that thing they are never going to do. No one will judge you

That sounds realy conveinient, untill fully automaticly things are being (ab)used for little things while you were actualy saving the parts for that ultimate weapon or new base extention.
So please no, unless you can turn it on/off for each individual storage.

Also what is wrong with using mods if you can? "Demanding" the game being tweaked to your preferences is kind of... Dunno.

Also I agree with the other replies re priorities of the fun pimps, whether or not this should be in vanilla etc. If there weren't a gazillion mods for tiny and big things I'd sort of understand (the usefulness of such options in vanilla ie i personally don't want too much dumbed down stuff if it can't be turned off, for reasons I gave before), but with so many mods out there we are not left wanting for most features/things

If I could easily pull 32 wood or something out of a stack of 6k, I'd agree with this.  But having to click 32 times to get 32 wood (or whatever number I'd need) is just way too tedious.

I hear you, however (for me) evem splitting stacks of wood for a given amount needed, or even for the larger amount needed for 2 lots of 6000 iron, clay, brass or lead, is worth doing, as opposed to an auto-switch off.... For me.   Even if we had the option in vanilla, I would not use it. I'm a bit strange maybe, but for reasons I've already given, I don't like things being too easy.    But again.. Each to their own 😁

6k... 3k... 1500... 750... 375... 188... 94... 47...
Only 7 clicks on half a stack and it's close enough. Or do the little extra clicks to get closer, still far away from 32 clicks. 🫠

It's still far too much of a pain in the ass 😛

Granted, I've been wanting to be able to specify amounts to pull from a stack in years.

Since we're being pedantic, you'll have to drop the stack each time, doubling your clicks. And then somehow sort it all back together, to end up at the same state, adding at least one, but if you don't want to SORT that specific container, seven again... 21 clicks or maybe a lil more.

Yeh, don't care that much, but I do wtb keyboard input in my PC game, I got a numpad on my mouse ffs .. :D

Notice i didn't even mention AI being so prevalent now.... anything computer-related is already way (way) too dumbed down currently, now we have AI trying to do everything for us, we might as well let AI split wood stacks, do our crafting, kill the zombies for us and do everything else for us.

...but each AI to it's own

That's what I do.  And considering I carry certain materials like wood with me, it is rarely a full stack to start with, which usually saves at least one split.  You do have to put everything back together afterwards, though. And if I am splitting my creating along multiple workstations at once, I can fill two with wood without additional splitting, and then only one additional split for each additional two workstations.  So it is even less trouble with now workstations.

I would like an option to turn off fires automatically after work is done, though.  It could even be an additional mod attachment for the workstation... a timer.

Automatically grabbing resources from creates doesn't really matter to me.  I'm organized and it doesn't take me any really effort or time to do so myself.  It gives me a reason to keep things organized instead of just having dump boxes.  Still, I wouldn't care if they added it.
