The Cake, a short story.

The Cake By 4SheetznGeegles

CHAPTER 1
I want some cake....What cake?....You know the one you use to make...I made a lot of cakes which one in
particular?....You know the chocolaty one....Ooooookay,,,,was it the Sweet chocolate, German chocolate, Fudge, Bundt,
Angelfood, Sponge cake or what?....Yeah, the one you use to make when i was young....

That would possibly be the German choclate Angelfood. That was made from a mix, before I learned to do it from
scratch.... I don't have an old box with the recipe, so, I can make one similar but not exact.

Why not?....

Because the company that made the cakemix went out of business 10 years ago, and one of the main ingredients Crisco
tub lard is no longer produced either....Sigh, So can you make the cake or what? I still want it. It's just a cake.

Shakes head while letting out a Long Sigh........

CHAPTER 2......Remember that soft chocolate cake you made from mix?
Can you make me one?....Sorry; The company that made that mix went out of business 10 years ago and I don't
know the ingredients, also the main catalyst ingredient, Crisco tub lard isn't produced either, so I doubt
it will taste or turn out the same.

A MONTH LATER: Hmmm, so can you try this?

Ok so, I know I like the taste of the Angelfood cake that "Punkin Vines" makes, it has the recipe on the box, Can
you possibly substitute melted Coconut oil, butter, water, and honey to simulate the Crisco effect....

Ok i'll try it....8 FAILED EXPERIMENTS LATER....

Holy crap that's it....Num Num Num Num....Told you it was easy....Yeeaahh, Not not so much, I had to keep trying different
volume combinations, and temperatures and timing because we have an electric stove now vs the wood stove from back
then, they cook very differently; but, I did finally manage to create a new recipe, thanks for the suggestion for the
combination of ingredients to replace the Crisco; How did you figure it out?

I finally found a picture of the cakebox online, then I researched the name and found a pdf on Internet Archive of the
exact secret ingredients, then I found out that you also needed to add mace, nutmeg, allspice, and Cornstarch, chilled after
melting the mix.

Then; I had to Google Crisco to find out what it was really for,I never knew how necessary it was. I just assumed it
was just oil. Then I researched lard to see the texture and flavor it yields, old time flavors that don't exist anymore,
flavor comparisons and alternatives, and some other stuff with the Google Ai deep dive. And finally I figured after a
month of compilation this might work. That was insane. I mean it's just a cake.

So if you could do all of that research, why didn't you just make yourself the cake? The ingredients and utensils are all
here in the kitchen, and you have access to them.

Because, I don't want to cook and I'd rather have you make it.

Now can I have some cobbler?

The sound of a door slammed open and distant footsteps running away.
The end.
