PC Terrain/Water Bugs

Hi there,

I have noticed a few bugs, conform the LAKE to the right of the middle of the map's national forest. (don't know it's name, will had to add in an edit)

In that lake is a house on poles.

The player can't get into the house using the existing ladders, or newly build ladders (have to use wooden stairs)

Also I noticed when building more platforms on poles around it, blocks of water start missing at the builded site or start rising and when they rise they adhere to the build platform.

This does happen randomly, so each time you build/remove building blocks the water terrain changes.

Also when pouring water onto the building and it runs down into the lake, water blocks will be added to the lake, raising once again the water with just random blocks.

Next issue found is that when I jump off the platform into the lake, I sometimes fall though the water and crash unto the bottom, crippling my leg or instantly killing me. (this has caused me to get killed by zombies too as you're then unable to swim up)

This even happens when bobbing onto the water (jumping randomly while inside the water) and also when swimming and repeatedly crouching/standing when swimming.

The nature of this not-registering-water bug happens randomly.

It quite pissed me off, since I already died over 5 times, when trying to build a farm next to the water house. (I've succeeded though)

Console used: Xbox One X

Hi Nod800,

I believe I know the lake house you are taking about, but if you could confirm for me with a name of coordinates that would help me double check the ladders for it - If you have footage of trying to get into the building that would help too. I assume you are playing the Navezgane map, but if you could confirm that too please.

The water physics in the game can be very challanging, and often don't act it is expected. This is an ongoing issue from the PC version, which I believe the PC were looking to update, so hopefully we get updated physics soon too.

For now, modifying items under the water can cause pockets of air to form in columns or chunks which can be difficult to fill back in. These gaps could be responsible for you falling to the lake bed as you are not slowed down as you would be in a water block. It is akin to jumping off a building on land. If it happens out in the middle of the lake rather than around the building you are describing, seeing a video of this would also be helpful to determine the cause.

Adding the water blocks is also part of the known physics issues. The water will not "level out" like it does in say, Minecraft, but rather sit on top or spread slightly. You can also see this at the coast when digging sand, water will not flow directly or level out as it should.

I understand your frustration, the team are aware that the water physics do not behave as they should and hopefully we'll see an update to them soon. In the mean time, I have seen people build water bases etc, I believe with enough experience with the water they got used to it's behavior and controlling it to some extent. I'm glad you were still able to make your farm. If it's suspended above the water, make sure you have enough supporting pillars, when plants mature they have a different weight and can effect supports - this mechanic has caused a lot of roof top gardens to collapse as corn matured.

Update

Hi there,

Yes I am playing at Navezgane, will look this evening up the coordinates of the building.

Nice to know the water/air pockets issue is known.

Any idea on an ETA of the next fixes/content update?

Also thanks for the tips about the farm.

I don't know how to record and upload screenshots/movies from gameplay.

Care to tell me how to do it on Xbox One X?

Hi Nod800,

There is currently no eta for the next update beyond "later this year" there is also no mention of what fixes will be included other than the upgrade to Unity 2017. I'm not sure how much the PC team has updated their water physics - but hopefully we'll see a difference with this update.

On the XB1 console you press the Xbox button on the controller while playing. There's a guide and info on how to change preferences here - https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/capture-game-clips-and-screenshots - The uploads on the forums are limited when it comes to these file sizes, so often players upload them to their OneDrive and get shareable links from there.

Hope that helps,

Clare

I have noticed a interesting cool bug on the PS4 Pro. I will be walking around and city buildings from really far away spawn or sometimes I'll see trees grouped together that are far away.

I play a single player and local two player on a PS4 Pro. When I play by myself I never see any bears anywhere. I don't die that much so I should see them at least sometimes. I travel around the world a lot. When I play with my wife or friends we see bears a littlle more often. They come right up to our massive base. I play the Navagane map. Another bug I noticed is the random gen worlds usually generate a (few) high cliffs where the road ends... My favorite bug is a rare one but I've taken pictures. It's one where I stand on a hill and I can see buildings and trees from really far away in places around my base sometimes. Makes me wonder what's really possible. I experience stable frame rates.
