Terrain blocks no longer work in 2.6

On our server, we leveled the terrain to build a city together. To do this, we filled in some areas, cut away others, and smoothed the surface. The top layer of the roads was covered with asphalt, and the top layer of the other areas was covered with topsoil. In some places, we also used gravel and dirt. Before the update to 2.6, it looked like this:

After the update to 2.6, some of the roads look like grass and some look like rocks. The other areas (grass) still look like grass in some places, but mostly like rocks or dirt. The gravel is also incorrect; it looks like rocks as well. See here:

We’ve already tried placing other terrain blocks or building blocks beneath the top layer, but all attempts to restore it to the state it was in 2.5 have failed. It would be great if we could place topsoil/grass, asphalt, dirt, and gravel again and have them actually look like those materials. Or if additional terrain blocks could be added that have a fixed texture that doesn’t change.

There’s nothing about this in the logs.

It also happens with RWG tiles. If you replace gravel/topsoil with asphalt the gravel/topsoil shines through the asphalt. Before 2.6 asphalt looked like asphalt.

It always used to be on tiles (also POI surfaces) that gravel or topsoil replacing asphalt keeps looking like asphalt. If you look in dm under the surface you can see that streets (asphalt) is "painted" to the bedrock painting gravel/topsoil through the surface. Now in 2.6 the same happens to asphalt itself, when there previously was gravel or topsoil with the exception that it just shines through the asphalt as you can see in the picture of Blackmadman.

Hi Blackmadman,

First, let me say how sorry I am that this happened to you. It is always frustrating when changes to the game disrupt our gameplay.

This is due to the way the game currently blends terrain textures using splat maps, and some changes made between 2.5 and 2.6. I tried troubleshooting this to see if I could prevent it from happening, but no matter what I tried, I could not resolve the issue.

As a temporary fix, you could try using concrete blocks. I know it's not the same as asphalt, but building blocks are not terrain and won't blend with the splat map.

We can take a look internally to see if there are any improvements we can make, but I cannot promise a specific timeline for a fix.

Best,
Dollie
