Steam client giving the error "An error occurred while updating 7 Days to Die (missing executable)" when trying to launch the game.

This is related to changes that added a launcher and Steam not allowing multiple choices for launching based on version.
I normally just launch the executable manually.

Here is how to launch:

  1. After uninstall/install of the older version.
  2. Steam Client > Games Library
  3. Right-Click 7 Days To Die
  4. Select Properties and click
  5. Click Local Files Tab
  6. Click Browse Local Files
  7. Double-Click 7DaysToDie.exe
You may want to make a shortcut to the executable itself to make launching easier.
Alternatively, back up the 7dLauncher.exe before downgrading, then copy it to the install folder after changing to the older version

If you start the game, go into the Profile or start/join a game and you are greeted with red console errors that have or resemble this error:

IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array.
at Archetypes.BuildUMA (Archetype _archetype, UMA.UMAData _umaData, SlotLibrary _slotLib, OverlayLibrary _overlayLib, Entity _entity,

Perform these steps (Note, this will wipe saved games and worlds, so if you wish to back them up do so before this)

  1. Open the game launcher either from Steam or by the 7dlauncher in the main game folder
  2. Go to the Tools tab
  3. Click Open Settings
  4. Delete that folder that it brings you to in the registry. Look in the bottom left, you'll see one called 7 Days to Die, delete that one.
  5. Go back into the launcher and select Clean Game Data, check all the things (note this will wipe all your save games/worlds in %appdata%/7daystodie (you can click Open Save Games too to get here if you wish to back them up do so before), clean it.
  6. Go back into Steam and verify your file integrity two times in a row, you should be good to go now.

Note: You may not need to delete save games and generated worlds, but it's best practice to do so anyway.

Dedicated Server Does Not Appear in List, or is Unable to Connect to EoS

Making a note of this because it has been coming up as an issue for a lot of servers not just with 7 Days, but pretty much any that utilize EoS for the server listings. The issue is a result of some changes Epic made late last year.

In addition to opening ports 26900 TCP and 26900-26903 UDP, you may also need to install the revocation certificate from here for EoS. The downloaded r2m02.crl file must be installed I by selecting Place all certificates in the following store and selecting Trusted Root Certification Authorities. A system restart may be needed.
