it takes quite a while until one can craft i.e. trigger plates. it needs 45 books to unlock tier 2 stuff (sensors).
why not making it like with Food. every few books you unlock another thing. if it would be too easy for one to get the item unlocked,
maybe increase the number of books needed for the next upgrade (which i would say, is not necessary).
