Storm Duration

Experienced my first storm today in the Snow Biome. Decided to clock how long it would last. It lasted about 2 in game hours.

Curious if anyone else had about the same time, longer or shorter. Not sure if this is the standard amount of time for a storm to last or if it varies.

Jury still out on storms for me. Trying to decide what I like and don't like.

Storm time currently varies based on the game day value. If you play 2 hours days, it'll last twice as long real-time compared to 1 hour days. This will be changing (probably in 2.1). AFAIK, storm time doesn't vary and is always the same amount of time other than that change due to game day value.

In any case, the storms are getting some changes that could change what people think of them. 2.1 should be out very soon. They wanted to try to get it out by the end of this week, but that doesn't seem to have happened. But that means it'll likely happen next week at some point.

Most boring addition ever tbh. Just had to sit out two storms during one evening in already cleared and emptied POI´s. Yesterday during doing the wasteland badge we had to sit at the border and wait for it to be over. Wasted time.

If you copy the sandstorms from Conan Exiles at least also give us something similar to the sand storm mask in mid or late game.

Heh, I've had plenty, and I'm pretty sure it varies; but 5 mins sounds about right. Not sure at all though :)

Yea, I'm all for storms, just give us a way to either defeat the effects or severely minimize it. At least it will give us something to strive towards.

It's 10 minutes of real time (I timed it on a few occasions) on a 60 minutes day setting (for example, 120 minutes day setting would be 20 minutes of storm, rea time).
Thankfully, this will be changed in 2.1 (as @faatal mentioned) and won't last as long, and fewer times per day (also depending on day length setting of course).

I had the same thing where I had to wait at the edge of the Forrest, so I did some mining while waiting.
Do people tend to forget that you can turn that setting off if it bothers them so much? People actually complain about a setting that can be turned off. What is it? You guys want the storms but you don't want the storms? UNBELIEVABLE!
Anyways, it will be toned down in 2.1

Yea I'm playing on 120 minute days and I was there for some time twiddling the Ole thumbs. Would love to actually be out in the storm but with limited visibility and a higher chance to be ambushed by Frost Claws. Missed opportunity I think.

The game doesn't want to turn you into a God, so I don't see this happening.

That's my biggest problem with this update. I like the idea of biome effect and storms, but they've made it way too easy to nullify the biome effects and impossible to mitigate the storms.

1/6th of a day, that's 4 game hours... could be, but that sounds long to me.

EDIT: @Lax @Space4Ace
Just had one in game, started at ~2200, ended ~0020. Twoish in-game hours, 60min days .. about 5 mins.

@Space4Ace We always do a whole pure vanilla playtrough with all the new things. I at least have to get the whole experience once before i finally deceide if i like it or not.

And we did a whole ingame day of mining right before going for the wasteland badge. So nope, mining was not an option, we had enough of that already. Basically yes you could mine, but we mostly get storms when in a POI or with our luck two times right after we cleared and wrenched the whole building already.

Having a sandstorm mask works just fine in CE. Not right at start, needs to be mid/late game ofc and should take up the head armor spot imo, so you can´t have your usual head armor when using it. It could get unlocked once you have all biome badges or as a reward for completing the tier 6 quests. Something like that.

It´s the same as with the biome badges, sounds good at first glance but the execution is very poorly done. Still can´t get over it that they didn´t put in mini bosses for the biome badges, that was such a good opportunity. And what did we get? A checklist. There is still a little bit of hope as we are still in early access technically and they might develop those mechanics further.

@theFlu 10mins sounds about right to me, at least for wasteland and snow. Pretty sure desert and burnt were shorter.

What confuses me is the message i get in the wasteland when a storm comes. It says "leave the biome" instead of "Look for shelter" We just got there so we couldn´t test it yet.

Didn't even sound good to me at first glance. ("Listen! Do you smell something?" Sound. Glance. Get it? No? Ok. Yeah, that's...that's probably a bad one.)

Come on! Why take years to develop a compelling biome survival experience when you can just add recipes to a game already overflowing with recipes and "kill a wendigo while wearing a clown suit" so-called "challenges."

Honestly, if they can no longer take their time and develop something compelling for whatever reason, they might want to think about leaving it for the next game. No doubt they feel they must keep the promises they've made over the years to implement this or that, but this kind of stuff is backfiring on them in a big way. (Hopefully, their Kickstarters would be slightly more understanding than they obviously are.)

I finally understand those who will never again play vanilla and opt for overhauls instead. This "Biome progression" system looks like amateur night at the comedy club.

Just had a 5 min one in snow. Had a minihorde in the city by summoning everything in the area ... :D

That seemed to change the moment I got the badge for the area. "Leave" before, "seek shelter" after.

@InfiniteWarrior So you played FO76. Nice. Too bad it got unplayable for me due to a PA bug. Tbh i like stupid stuff like that in some games.

Overhauls are the way to go for us in 7days. We played Rebirth for the first time right before V2 hit and it was awesome. We cursed the mod maker a LOT when starting but it was so good after we got used to it.

@theFlu Yeah that makes sense. Could have thought of that myself. Meh.

So you played FO76
Reluctantly. I only played it to see what the **** my sister was seeing in it and -- honestly -- it's not a bad game...if you just consciously follow the holotape bread crumb trail it started out with. Otherwise, people like Noah Gervais are absolutely correct: it's Fallout iconography boiled down to a literal theme park and utterly missing what made people fall in love with the setting and franchise in the first place.

It´s not for playing solo. But it´s really great fun if you play with firiends. Never really played alone apart from doing daily quests and score board or power leveling at WestTec, not even half the fun of playing with friends. Also matters when you played. At launch it was awful and got a LOT better over the years. Well apart from Bugthesda being Bugthesda.

If you say so. Who am I to yuck your yum?

From my perspective: it was awful at launch because it literally wasn't ready to launch and I don't think that was BGS's fault, but Zenimax's and Bethesda Sofrworks' fault.

I honestly got the impression while playing it that the initial intent -- all new factions (including Taggerdy's Thunder) -- were intended for Fallout 5. Then the marketing departments got their hands on it, not to mention the fact that Zenimax was gearing up for its sale to Microsoft. And.... Well, Fallout 76 is the result with stuff like Taggerdy's Thunder automagically morphing into an East Coast chapter of the Brotherhood.

But that's just my impression.
