PC sand in desert biome

Hi all,

is there no more sand & stone in the desert until you hit bedrock? I wasn't playing some time and started again, found myself in the desert but after digging up some sand with clay I hit stone after 4 layers.

Am I not in the real desert or did it change?

Yeah they made some changes to top soil in recent alphas. Not sure of the details, but basically you now get both clay and sand from what looks like just sand. Not sure why either.

You can turn small stone into sand once you get a cement mixer as an alternative. But yes, only the top layers are sand so dig a large shallow path for your sand needs. Also gravel gives both sand and stone and can be found in most biomes around iron,coal, etc...
